Details:
So far, Souvenir is still a one-man band.

I am a 22 years old and live in Carmichael, California.

All of this make got started way back in the day when my dad bought me a bass guitar
so that I could play in a band with my friends. I was a freshman in high school and had
no clue what I was doing. We were called 7th Edition for a while but I think we changed
our name to Flashlight Demons for a show we had at my old middle school - where I
felt victorious. We kicked my best friend out of the band (sorry James) and then soon
after I left.

Sophomore year of high school, I started a rock-rap group with my old friend Tony and
his friends. We were called Energy 57 and we sounded a lot like Rage Against the Machine.
I was the singer and it was good times. We were actually pretty good. But we never played
any shows - unfortunately. We broke up sometime late in my sophomore year.

Over the summer before junior year my best friend Scott asked me to join his ska-punk band
Fun With Logic. I had a drum set for some reason (which I didn''t know how to play) and FWL
needed a drummer to fill in while they looked for a real drummer. I think I impressed Scott
and Keith (the singer/guitarist) so they decided to just keep me. We worked pretty hard and
played one show before Scott left the band and our other friend Ryan came in, along with
trombone player Peter, and trumpeteer Jeff. We got pretty damn good after that. I think because
Keith was becoming a better song-writer and lyricist and because Ryan knew a lot about music
and made everything sound good. We played two shows and then broke up over the summer
because Keith and Peter had to go to college in the fall.

Senior year of high school I didn''t play any music. I concentrated more on school make and
getting into college.

Once at college (UC Santa Cruz), I learned that my next-door neighbor had a left handed guitar.
I pretty much adopted that guitar and made it my own and learned guitar pretty quickly and started
writing all kinds of terribly boring Saves the Day, Jimmy Eat World, Impossibles-influenced punk
songs (not that those bands suck, they really inspired me). Eventually, I took a bus home and then
brought back this guitar I had stored at my mom''s house. So now I had my own guitar in the dorm
and became known for playing ''Hold'' by STD for my friends. It was an awesome time and I actually
recorded some songs using another friends 4-track tascam recorder. All of those songs though were
lost when I accidentally taped over them (OOPS!).

So sophomore year of college, my mom bought me a brand new steel string guitar along with my
own 4-track tascam recorder. I recorded my first record on that and then transferred over to my
roommate Mark''s computer so that I could mix and master it. By then I had taken on the name
Fun With Logic for what I was doing. I figured I would just continue on where my junior high school
band had left off. And nobody seemed to mind. So from all the recording I did for the first cd
I ended up with two completely different cd''s: Rye and Scythe and Directions to My Mansion.
Both of them sounded pretty bad but they were fun and I was learning. I would play at open mics
in Santa Cruz and sell or give away these cd''s. It was good times.

Then, Keith told me that he didn''t want me to use the Fun With Logic name. No hard feelings.
I had pretty much lost all feeling for the name anyway. So I took on the name Souvenir because
Souvenir was going to be the name of the next Fun With Logic record.

So in 2003, I worked my ass off for my dad''s construction company and put together enough
money to buy the MBox and Protools. Everything I''ve recorded since has been recorded with
Protools.

I recorded Sic Et Non and the self-titled cd all at the same time - this seems to be common for me.
All in the same month or two, I record two sets of songs which sound almost nothing like each other.
Sic Et Non is my version of a straight up pop record. And the self-titled record (now named Heart)
is I don''t even know. More experimental? More for me I guess.

Some time during senior year of college, my good friend File and I started a band which eventually
became a full-fledged dance-explosion called State Bird. Brendan played drums and Jessie played
keyboards and Theresa sang. File played guitar and wrote the songs and then I played bass. We played
3 shows and then all graduated. So we broke up. To my dismay.

So that brings you up to January 2005. Who knows what the hell''s going to happen now.

The philosophy behind Souvenir is this: MAKE MUSIC PEOPLE WANT TO LISTEN TO.
I have to give thanks to my friend and semi-mentor Rjyan Kidwell for that since he is
pretty much my age but far more respected in the music business. I agree with his
observation about music and songs. If you only a couple of people understand what
you''re doing, then you''re not really doing anything that wonderful. If I can make as many people like my music as I can
then I think that is a good thing. I don''t hate on abstract stuff, I do it myself a lot of the time,
but if there''s nothing there for the average music listener to really grab onto, what''s the
point? I want to make music that people listen to all the time, for every moment.
