Details:
Although Plant life is J J Alan’s first solo release, he is far from new to the music business. He was born sometime in the early psychedelic era – his actual age is younger than he actually is. It wasn’t too long after entering this world that Alan caught his first glimpse of Elvis Presley. The sure fun and excitement that this one entertainer caused was too much for Alan to ignore – he had to somehow learn to make music. It was at this point he began taking guitar lessons from one of the owners of
a local music store, Greg George who is a note worthy jazz guitar player and continues to perform to this day.

A few years passed and Alan filtered through a couple of the local rock bands: one being the Bob Cocker
group where he played and performed at the young age of fourteen. All of the band members were in their twenties
living active, drug and alcohol induced life styles. A good party was not hard to find during these times. Alan, being a young, curious teenager was anxious to join
the mind dulling celebration. It could have been the beginning of the end for this young musician, but with a
little luck, solid family and friends, Alan survived these
couple years of cerebral dampening with a few minor scars.
In actuality, it was a time that taught him what music was truly all about and it had nothing to do with drugs and alcohol.

His next adventure began with a group of guys from the western suburbs of Chicago. It was a three piece power trio creatively named UnderCover. They Toured all through the Chicago area as well as a little to the north, a little to the south, a little to east and a little to the west. Playing about a fifty-fifty split of originals and current popular tunes of the time, UnderCover was beginning to create a name for themselves and a decent following.

During the early 80’s UnderCover was on an early path to stardom, and about a week away from a record deal, when it all came crashing down. The current drummer, whose name will remain anonymous, decided a career in engineering would be more lucrative than one in the music business. Without enough time to recruit a new drummer before the demo was due, UnderCover’s short lived success was over. It was at this time that Alan decided to try another end to
the music business: Retail and teaching. This served
him well, at least well enough to earn a living while taking on other odd jobs.

It was now the nineteen-nineties and Alan was working at an electronic manufacturing company and making music on the side. Some earlier high school training and working with electronics as a hobby benefited his current full time day gig and would later become beneficial as
well. The nineties were filled with ups and downs,
a divorce and the loss of his loving parents. Alan’s father, who had been a millwright, cabinet maker and a skilled woodworker managed to pass down his creative and constructive gifts to his son. Not only is J J Alan a gifted guitar player, but you can find him repairing stringed instruments, amplifiers and a multitude of electronic gizmos at Perry’s Music Center in Villa Park, IL.

Married again in two thousand four, Alan''s world was once again whole. Through the support of his Wife, Family and Friends, Plant life is now a reality. He lives and
breathes music in almost every aspect of his life – and that’s just the way he prefers it.
