Details:
The Cogs project began in 2000 and was intended to be a one off album inspired by Luigi Russolo''s futurist manifesto on music, ''The Art of Noises''. This resulted in Cogs debut ''Passings 1913-1915'' ,an imagined representation of the first concert of futurist music. After the completion of that album it was decided that the project would continue and since then it has continued to explore a broad spectrum of conceptual ideas and musical styles over the course of ten albums of material and numerous other bits and pieces.
The name Cogs originally stood for ''Collapse of Geographical Significance'' but has since come to represent the workman, machine like, factory rate at which material has appeared. The biggest flood of material came over a period of three years between 2000 and 2003. This two-disc compilation documents those three years of exploration and adventure.
Since 2003 Cogs leader and sole member Patrick Wray has been concentrating on his more visual based work but since the release of the ''Laughter and Footsteps'' album in 2005 the project has become reinvigorated and is set to return soon.
The Cogs project has at times been compared to DNA, Jandek and Jad Fair but in truth like those acts, Cog''s is a proposition in itself. What the music lacks in production values it gains by it''s sheer confidence in it''s own identity and any technical limitations are buried in an avalanche of ideas. The album features extensive sleeve notes, photos and artwork. Each copy has a token enclosed enabling the buyer to send off for another disc from the Cogs back catalogue and receive it free of charge!

"Raw, unpredictable, honest, uncompromising. Cogs is not a pop tart."
