David Hall is a gifted children’s musician. With his harmonica, voice, and six string acoustic guitar he creates a diversity of original folk songs that entertain and educate children of all ages. “Music is my favorite way to connect with people,” says David. “It truly is the universal language.”
Hall began his performing career as a youngster, taking private music lessons, performing in school and church productions, and entertaining family and friends with his neighborhood “summer-stock” theater troupe. In high school he discovered rock-n-roll guitar and the blues, spending hours listening to the masters and beginning to form his own imaginative musical ideas. In college he found his passion for working with children and focused on a career in education. Upon graduation he worked at summer camps and church schools where he experimented with original material in front of live audiences. While honing his kid-friendly chops, Hall learned to combine silliness with poignancy into music that children love.
As much as his music is infectious and entertaining, it is Hall''s interaction with his audience that makes his live performances unquestionably dynamic. In concert he shares his warm playful manner, creating an enthusiastic and safe musical environment that energizes listeners to sing, move, and play along. Audiences buzz together during “Bee Positive,” meow with “The Cat Song,” and splash their way through “Car Wash." Hall’s activity songs get listeners up and moving and his clever lyricism puts smiles on even the straightest faces.
Awards for his debut album, Bee Positive, include a 2005 National Parenting Publications (NAPPA) Honors Award, a 2004 Parents'' Choice Approved Award from the Parents'' Choice Foundation, First Prize in the 2006 Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival''s New Song Showcase, and Honorable Mention in the 2003 John Lennon Songwriting Contest.
Hall holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Colorado and a master’s degree in education from Portland State University, where he studied music theory, composition, and performance. He is a registered Music Together teacher, artist-in-residence at numerous schools and summer camps, and a stay-at-home dad.
A native of Eugene, OR, Hall now lives with his wife and six year old daughter in Portland, OR. “I love what I do,” says Hall. “I get to play music with children, the greatest audience in the world!”
