Pianist Pauline Martin''s Washington debut captured the Washington Post headline Pauline Martin''s Dazzling Debut; and was “rewarded by loud, sustained applause . . . a balanced, colorful and thoroughly engrossing performance” (Kenneth Townsend). A Koch International Classics recording artist, she continues to earn world-class recognition for her solo and chamber music performances, recordings and national broadcasts in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. The Canadian born pianist has appeared as concerto soloist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the New American Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra London Canada and numerous others, and appears regularly with the Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings. Her world premieres of new works have drawn praise from composers Leslie Bassett, Lukas Foss, Karolina Eiriksdottir, James Hartway and others for her bold and insightful readings.

Pauline Martin formed the now renowned St. Clair Trio in 1989 with violinist Emmanuelle Boisvert and cellist Marcy Chanteaux. The Trio’s compact disc, “Hobson’s Choice” (works by Sir Malcolm Arnold (Koch International), received a first-round Grammy nomination in 1996. “Old Acquaintances”, a CD of works by Franz Waxman, won a Chamber Music America-WQXR award for best release of 2000. She has also collaborated with the Lafayette String Quartet, violinists James Ehnes and Andres Cardenes, flutist Bonita Boyd, hornist Eric Ruske and other leading instrumentalists, and recently formed the deMaine-Martin Duo with cellist Robert deMaine. The Duo has caught the attention of veteran Beaux Arts Trio pianist Menahem Pressler, who “is impressed by its beautiful sound, technical expertise and unanimity of conception”. Martin has been featured as performer and teacher at a host of regional and international festivals such as the Ann Arbor, Sarasota, Summer Serenades (Rockville, Maryland) and Mackinac Island Music Festivals, as well as the Aria International Summer Music Academy, the Winter Days Festival of Scandinavia and the IcelandicFestival of Manitoba. She is currently Artistic Director of the Pro Mozart Society of Greater Detroit.

As faculty member at Michigan State , Wayne State and Oakland University, Pauline Martin has been sought after for her skills as a master teacher, lecturer and adjudicator and as such was recently interviewed for Piano Magazine, the leading piano journal of South Korea. Her seminars on aspects of performance and technique are in demand at colleges and universities in the U.S. and Canada. She holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in piano performance from Indiana University and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in performance from the University of Michigan, where she studied with Gary Graffman, Theodore Lettvin and U. of M. resident artist Andre Watts.
