This cycle of compositions came about in 2005 when I was invited by the ToneArt Festival in Copenhagen to write a set of compositions for a sextet that ToneArt put together. As I was heavily under the influence of the way French clarinettist Louis Sclavis writes and puts together a program for a group, I used this occasion to write and work in his spirit. While writing the songs, I noticed influences and echoes from a long list of French jazz-musicians, so in the end it has become a set of French Jazz played by a sextet of Scandinavians.
The musicians assembled for the occasion come from the Danish group Takuan and the Norwegian Trio Trang. They are all exceptionally good musicians who worked enthusiastically with the music always changing the arrangements and even the overall compositions.
It was really wonderful writing this music and playing with these five musicians, I am very grateful for the opportunity and hope that the joy we had playing and recording the music comes through on the recording.
