Details:
Standard hails from Northern California. This group of musicians brings a chemistry and maturity to the stage that is beyond their years. Their music and live performances have made audiences ask: "Who is this band?"

Standard formed in November of 2001. This, however, was not the real begginning. Russ Martellaro (lead vocals/acoustic guitar) and Chris Copeland (electric guitar/backing vocals) had been playing music together since they were in high school.

Russ started learning how to play classical guitar when he was 8 years old. While attending Vacaville High School he was influenced by the music of Papa Roach and Incubus who were barley regional bands at the time. The first live concert he ever attended were those two bands at the Vacaville Community Center. Inspired by both of those bands'' success he had always subconsciously wanted to be in a band. He finaly picked up the electric guitar and taught himself songs that he actually liked to listen to.

After graduating high school he attended a Dave Matthews Band concert for the first time. Emmediately afterwards he taught himslef how to play most of their songs, this changed his style drastically. Slowly learning to play these songs and sing at the same time he developed enough courage to play at a small café in downtown Vacaville.
He decided to ask his old high school friend Chris Copeland to play the show with him. Chris'' style of playing complimented Russ very well, they instantly knew there was something special.

Chris Copeland picked up his first guitar at age 13 in rebellion towards piano and trumpet lessons. He wanted to play an instrument that his parents didn''t pick for him. His early influences included U2 and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers but being from Vacaville he had also been going to Papa Roach concerts since they had a trombone player. After high school he moved up to Chico to attend Chico State. He was initially frustrated with the music scene in Chico, it was hard finding people interested in the same type of music. A year later Russ moved up to Chico. Russ and Chris were now able to continue doing what they had been doing back in Vacaville except now they began writing their own material. They started playing several shows around Chico at places like Moxies and LaSalles.

In August of 2000 Todd Jansen moved up to Chico to go to school there. Todd was from Vacaville also and had been following bands like Papa Roach, Deftones, Incubus, along with bands like Dave Mathews Band, and U2. After about a year of supporting Chris and Russ at their local gigs he finaly joined up to play drums.

The trio soon came across Ryan Sanders who is the only Chico local out of the four. Ryan had a strong footing in the local music scene in Chico. Growing up he was able land sound engineering jobs around town at the local venues along with traveling the west coast and doing sound for bands like AFI, Reel Big Fish, Sevendust, Oleander, and many others. He also owned and operated his own recording studio. A connection was made when Russ, Chris, Todd, and their bass player at the time came into Ryan''s studio to do a demo CD. The guys had began to call Ryan to do sound around town and the group became friends. When the opportunity came the guys asked if Ryan would join up on Bass, and thus formed Standard.

In the summer of 2003, Standard released their first EP "Promise" which garnered interest from Wild Oak Records, a local record label, as well as local commercial radio station (Regent Broadcasting co.) 107.9 the Point. Also new for 2003-2004 was the insurgance of out-of-town bookings. Standard has begun to travel to San Francisco, Davis, San Luis Obisbo, Sacramento and other regional locations and are having a blast on the road. They are currently booking shows all over California in support of the CD and their music...

The band is: Todd Jenson (Drums) Russ Martellaro (Vocals/Guitar) Ryan Sanders (Bass) and Chris Copeland (Guitars/Backing Vocals).
