This CD is a solo effort from Kevin Hartnett recording under the name “The Mission San Leandro Blues Band”. I have been a player for years and have been in several Bay Area Bands. These tracks started as practice tracks for me to jam to when the band was not around. Over time other friends and players heard the tracks and suggested I make them available to others, so I went back to the studio to write, record, and produce the hottest backing tracks you will ever hear. The results of those efforts are now available as “Take the Lead” Backing Tracks for Blues Guitar. All Guitar, Bass, and Drums were played, produced, and recorded by me in 2008 at the Mission San Leandro Studios in San Leandro, California. All tracks were recorded using vintage Fender and Aria Guitars equipped with Seymour Duncan Pickups and Elixir strings, Boss and Ibanez Pedals, various percussion instruments, Alesis SR-16 Drum Machines, and Shure Mic’s.
The tunes are loosely classified as Blues tracks based on the chord progressions, but there is a wide variety of styles and tempos to be found on the 13 tracks in this release. Each track is in the range of six minutes long, so there is ample opportunity stretch out in your solo.

Each track begins with the track name that contains the suggested key for your solo. You can also experiment with whatever key and scale you feel best suits the chord progression and your playing style. These tracks were all written with some form of a “I, IV, V” chord progression to work with the Pentatonic Minor scale, but that is just a starting point. Take the solo where it leads you and incorporate all your skills and scales.
