Details:
mAndy Prater has been singing since she learned to talk, wrote what could be considered her first song on her third birthday after receiving a Cabbage Patch kids tape recorder, and as a 5-year old, idolized Madonna. As kids, she and her younger sister would make up songs together sitting at the piano. She started her first rock band at the age of 14, after being inspired by Nirvana to pick up a guitar. She played in garage bands throughout her teen years in northeastern Indiana. At the same time, she was training her voice in various choral groups, experience which is exhibited through her singing technique and knack for vocal harmonies and creative song arrangements.

She attended the University of Chicago and formed the band Case of Fire with a friend. They had a loyal following on campus, performing in college coffee shops and special events. Tracks from their self-released CD Insineration were played on the local college radio station, WHPK. mAndy spent 2 years at the U of C, and then went to the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences in Tempe, Arizona, to study audio engineering, live sound reinforcement and music business. While there, she played bass in a band called halfwaynorth and can be heard on tracks from their album Lies for Annebelle.

Upon finishing the program, she went back to Chicago to intern at a recording studio. Working as an audio engineer served to remind mAndy that she really wanted to be on the other side of the glass. She even sang backup vocals on a few projects during her stint at the studio. An economic downturn made an engineering job hard to come by, and for a time she returned to her mainstay occupation of barista as well as running a freelance personal assistant business.

After a short time living in New Orleans (cut short by Hurricane Katrina), where she picked up a new instrument: drums, she ended up in Austin, Texas. It was here, in August of ’08, that work began, recording the CD Those Days with the help of Anthony Shannon (engineer, asst. producer, photography & art production). mAndy played every instrument on the CD -- acoustic and electric guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, tambourine and kazzoo -- and sang every vocal part. She also mixed and mastered the album. The CD was completed in December of 2008. She looks forward to longer recording projects in the future.
