''a few words about the short term hedonist''
(from https://www.tradebit.com)

okay ... as a kid i drew and painted lots of pictures. somewhere along the way, music took over. and i mean: TOOK OVER! its been an obsession to this day, to the detriment of many things; my sanity, my marriage, my bank balance, my social standing ...

i''ve lived in melbourne, australia since i was 4 (i''m 38 now) after escaping the UK in a shoebox. the best thing my parents ever did i reckon, bringing my brother and i over to awstraya. i currently reside in the lush & mysterious town of belgrave, creative centre of the melbourne hills

i won''t bore you with stories of playing led zep songs with my brother on drums, or the succession of bands i was in from about age 10, with strange names like nightmare, cupo''wunder, tangled eve, ovagene, etc. everyone has those kind of stories anyway - needless to say we had a lot of fun (& arguments, especially when i tried to get the bro'' to play smiths songs)

i do want to tell you that i currently still play guitar in a band called hoopiron, and have been doing so on & off since 1995. we do the occasional gig, and love playing and hanging out together. we make music that''s generally a lot heavier and more trippy than my solo stuff. they are an understanding bunch to let me go off & do my thing, & for this i am internally grapefruit

anyway, at some point i realised that i wanted to sing, play & record my own songs by myself, without relying on anyone to twiddle knobs or put their vocal stylings on them. thus ''short term hedonist'' was born (after i was once given this label by a $150 shrink - i didn''t go back to her again ... too expensive ... but she knows all about this and has even given me her blessing!)

so, between july 2003 & july 2005 i had a big burst of activity, ending up with over 50 songs being recorded. i roped in a lot of friends for these sessions - they are great people & i thank them all from the heart of my bottom - so, anytime you want me to play on one of your songs ... still waiting ... ok

i recently decided that the individual song was what people were going for more & more, so i have endeavoured to place my songs on all of the major paid download services (as well as putting out traditional albums). this is the way of things now, and that''s ok with me. so far, popular downloads have been ''dream of angels,'' ''he''s so mellow'' & ''gingerwitch''

its a whole new world for musicians these days, so without pressures of record companies, management, etc; i''ve been free to create and put out exactly the music i wanted, with no compromises whatsoever. this hasn''t been particularly easy at times. i''ve encountered all kinds of ''friendly'' criticism (coz friends can do that can''t they), ignorance & flat out negativity: "you should get a more commercial singer," (oh yeah, what are really trying to say??), "have you considered doing a dance tune? that genre''s pretty popular right now" or "this CD doesn''t sound as loud as that [professional] one" etc, etc ... and that''s before you''ve even made stuff available to the genital pubic

if i''d been a bank teller i''d have had a much easier time ... and been a lot closer to money!

okay, rant over ... i''m really quite mild in the flesh, you know. and i can''t really complain, coz i''m doing what i want

anyway, in the end, i had to do this music for my own sake - if i hadn''t i''d probably be dead, or living on the streets, hassling nice people on their lunch break and poisoning barking dogs

pet hates: capital letters, capital cities (except melbourne), capital punishment (unless i''ve been really bad), baseball caps and cappucinos

pet loves: pets (yeah, even dogs), ''pet sounds,'' petulance, petanque, people calling me ''pet''

actually, i can''t stand writing about myself, so this is it from me - hopefully someone will write a decent review or article about my music and i can publish that instead, but until then ...

cheers,
stevo
