Performing twice at Jazz In Marciac in southern France is one of the career highlights for Jimmer Bolden, a powerful, passionate vocalist. The most recent highlight is completion of his brand new recording “I’m Glad I Thought About You”, a collection of diverse arrangements of marvelous standards, one song “en Español”, and an anthem from a Tony-winning Broadway show.
Jimmer began his career in the nightclubs of Washington, D.C. on a one-year trio stint with Walt Namath, the talented guitarist formerly of the Buddy Rich Big Band. A chance meeting and jam session with Wynton Marsalis in Marciac motivated Jimmer to both explore traditional jazz further and to study classical vocal technique. Marsalis has continued to be a mentor and source of great inspiration for him.
Jimmer performed at sold out shows at the Blues Alley, One Step Down and the Willard Hotel Ballroom in DC, and played SRO shows at the Wheeler Opera House in Aspen. He performed regularly at jazz venues in DC, Aspen, San Diego, and in Los Angeles where he is currently based. He has made multiple appearances at Jazz Aspen Snowmass, and performed at the 1st annual Sonoma Jazz Plus in May 2005. According to festival producer and Jazz Aspen Snowmass founder James Horowitz, “Jimmer has a big voice...a honey voice, sweet, but big. He has tremendous range...he''s the real McCoy.”
Jimmer had the good fortune to perform with Monty Alexander, who says, “Jimmer Bolden can be included in that very exclusive group of vocalists who sing with wonderful resonance and articulation in the tradition of our most revered minstrels – Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra – and yet he sings and responds to the music of the moment, in an exciting and spontaneous way. I really enjoy and appreciate his talent. When I had the experience of serving as his accompanist, Jimmer continued to take me and the audience to very wonderful musical places…he is ‘tops’ in my book.”

Nat Cole, Dianne Reeves, Mark Murphy, Tierney Sutton and Frank Sinatra are just a few of Jimmer’s favorite vocalists, and his all-time fave is the late great Shirley Horn, with whom he took his very first vocal workshop.
Jimmer has expanded his pursuits to the theater world, and has appeared in “Pippin” and “Some Like It Hot”, and in Leonard Bernstein’s “Candide” with the Lyric Opera San Diego. Jimmer has since played the role of Booker T. Washington in two outstanding Los Angeles area productions of “Ragtime, The Musical", and was most recently the voice of “Audrey II”, that mean green man-eatin’ plant from outer space in a fabulous staging of “Little Shop Of Horrors”. After catching one of his performances, theater critic Pat Launer declared, "A delicious new musical theatre find, jazz singer Jimmer Bolden – a man with stage presence and a glorious voice."
