JJJohns biography

Born and raised in the Netherlands, in close proximity of bubbling Amsterdam, JJ Johns proved to be a natural for the music scene. While at the age of 14 he already performed with the Blue Rocking Strings, only 16 years old, he became one of the founding members of The Devotions and toured Holland, Germany and Belgium after recording the band''s first 45’s. When a few members were drafted, the band broke up and JJ kept himself alive playing various local bands, including for a short stint with the George Baker Selection (“Little Green Bag”). After various musical experiments, JJ returned to the music he loved most, Country Music.
March 2000 his journey, leading to the CD “Nothin’ Wrong With Me”, began when he was coupled with veteran producer/songwriter/multy-instrumentalist Scott Mathews (https://www.tradebit.com). Scott worked with all time greats as Johnny Cash, Glen Campbell and Roy Orbison, to name a few. The recording took place at the studio’s of Ex’pression, College for Digital Arts In Emeryville California.
Two songs on the CD were co-written by producer Scott Mathews.
Since the release, February 2001, JJ Johns started touring again. Most of the gigs were in Holland and Belgium to where the Johns family had moved, but also in Germany JJ’s perfomances were well appriciated.
Following the succes of this first CD JJ Johns started recording for the 2nd CD in November 2002, again with producer Scott Mathews and this time in Scott''s own “Tiki Town Studio’s in Mill Valley, California.
This second CD entitled “Songs That Make The Jukebox Play” contained two wonderful duets.
One with Grand Ol’ Opry veteran Ernie Ashworth (https://www.tradebit.com) “The Alcohol Of Fame” and the other, “United We Fall”, with charming Californian Country singer Heather Myles (https://www.tradebit.com).
“Songs That Make The Jukebox Play” has been released March 2003 and turned out to be a favorite of DJ’s all over the world, resulting in a #16 position in the “World Wide Independent Artist Chart”.
JJ’s duet with Heather Myles even reached the #1 position in the “E.M.S. European Independent Tracks Chart”.
A lot of the songs for both the CD''s JJ found his on obscure dusty 45''s digged up in old American Juke Boxes.
In 2005 the third JJ Johns CD was released, which was the start of a whole new phase in JJ''s life. Not only because the CD was recorded in Belgium rather than in the USA, but also for finding a producer he kept it close to home and asked his ''brother in arms'', the Dutch country singer Nick McAlley (https://www.tradebit.com). Also, right after finishing the recordings for this CD, JJ and his wife Marja decided to move houses again and went all the way to the south of Portugal where they found the house of their dreams, situated in the middle of the Algarve, overlooking the beautiful city of Silves.
Besides earning his living as a C&W singer, he and Marja also started a new career by means of renting out rooms at "JJJohns'' Vivenda Yucca" for bed & breakfast (https://www.tradebit.com
While on his first two CD’s one won’t find any well known songs, for this third CD however, JJ went looking for the big “Golden” C&W standards, the #1 hits, the songs everybody can hum along to. The title of the CD is “Only Gold” and it covers it’s load well.
