Details:
Listening to the Silver Thread Trio is “like being seduced in church,” according to independent radio, KXCI DJ, Laurie Starr. Their rich, intricate harmonies have been described as “angelic” and “intoxicating.” The group takes traditional folk songs and creates its own unique three-part vocal arrangements, presenting an updated version of old-school Americana. Genres range from dusty folk, to bluegrass and Appalachian numbers, to spirituals, to standards like “Moon River,” with the occasional polka thrown in for good measure. Their sound has been compared to Gillian Welsh, The Carter Family, and “syrup on your pancakes.” Gabrielle Pietrangelo, Caroline Isaacs, and Laura Kepner-Adney have been singing together for 4 years, and have developed a unique and enchanting vocal blend. The trio''s focus has been in maintaining the beauty in simplicity of these old folk songs, while communicating the emotion inherent in the stories they tell. While this Tucson based trio is solidly grounded in the a cappella tradition, their debut album features a range of instrumentation that complements and rounds out the varied songs. Pietrangelo and Kepner-Adney are featured on guitar, with Isaacs on spoons. They are joined on the recording by an impressive list of guest musicians, including Dante and Marco Rosano (coronet, clarinet, piano, baritone sax), Rudy Cortese (banjo), Sean Rogers (stand up bass) and Jimmy Carr (accordion), and the multi-talented Stuart Oliver (mandolin, organ, harmonica, piano), who recorded and produced the album on his fledgling indie label, Old Bisbee Records, out of Bisbee, Arizona.
