One of the most identifiable traits of a person bound for greatness is the obstacles they had to overcome for that greatness. Civil Rights leaders that broke through color barriers. Legendary athletes that played by the trashheaps. For most hip-hop artists, the situation is the same. The skills they posses where refined from their harsh urban life experiences and overall made them hungrier for the goal. Steven Lawrence, aka "Steve Law", is the ultimate example of an elite lyricist with the desire to not only ascend from his present condition but improve right it along with him. Steve Law is a native of Ford Heights , Illinois , (affectionately known to its residents as "The Eazy Greazy") a south suburban town that has been rated as the poorest suburb in the entire United States . As usual, when there is an evident difference between those who have and those who have not, the have nots will result to illegal ways to survive. However, Steve Law unlike so many in his community, found ways though his music to express himself and survive. In becoming a master of his own creativity and fate, Steve realizes that it is his duty to go back and create opportunity for those in Ford Heights who need help. He also has a black pride in himself that undoubtedly rises to the top no matter the issue at hand. Put this together with his musical talent and you have rebirth a new type of lyricist that can give you a perspective of not only keeping it real but keeping it right. As a freestyle artist he posses true wordplay skills not heard since battle ciphers from 1994. As a lyricist he has a socio-political content, and commands listeners to hear him with a prominent delivery. On the production side, Steve Law has an original sound that combines percussion, hard hitting bass lines, and a roller coaster of symphony harmony. Basically, a soundtrack to ones'' life. Highlights from his demo include the guitar-laden, "Real Pimpish", where he gives a clever lyrical dissertation on sugardaddyology. Another track sure to catch attention is the reggae-induced, "Thug Romance" in which he spits a line after line hip-hop quotable on the trial and tribulations of a man and his gun. More along the social conscience side is,"Pray for Me".A pull-no-punches song in which he talks to the listener''s conscience on how to overcome the diseases that plaque the African American community. Steve''s most recent project, "Greazy Muzik" is small significant taste of what this veteran underground artist is capable of. He is becoming a familiar voice on the mixtape circuits and has performed at numerous shows in the south suburban area. In 2003, he competed in the Miller Genuine Draft Freestyle Competition for his area and placed amongst the top 3. Now that he has secured his foundation, this Eazy Geazy native is well on his way to raising the bar in hip-hop music in Chicago and abroad.
