Richard Crowell comes from a long line of church organists and keyboard players in the Rochester, New York area. He was nearly killed in an automobile accident in 1984, and credits his recovery to a recording of Bach''s Brandenburg Concertos which he listened to over and over again while lying in the hospital.
This multi-instrumental arrangement of the Goldberg Variations is Richard''s attempt to repay his debt to the healing genius of Johann Sebastian Bach. The original manuscript has been followed with scrupulous attention, but new life has been breathed into it by assigning a different instrument to each voice.
The result is a fresh hearing of this perennial classic, opening up the densely woven counterpoint to let new light and beauty shine through.
