Within these walls is not so much a concept album, but more like an album focused around several key concepts that the artist (Mike Walker) believes to be of vast importance. The title “Within These Walls” has a double meaning. The first and most obvious meaning behind the album title shows that Mike walker is still a high school student. This album was the brain child of his and was conceived in the school cafeteria late in his sophomore year and was finished in the middle of his senior year. “Within These Walls” most literally means that when writing the music for the album he was still in school, unable to escape from the brick walls of the establishment and truly be free. He felt like a child at the window of a toy store, he could see life through the window, but he couldn’t go in. The second meaning of the album focuses on a much wider and or deeper concept. This concept states that the “walls” all the people of the world are trapped inside are the boundaries of being a human. There are some questions that we as human beings can ask that have no answer as long as we are bound to our human bodies and to this world. The answers to those questions lie outside of the box and circle that we as divided humans exist in. there is only one way to find out if there is life after death, but there are so many ways and reasons to live. This album addresses issues in the government, problems with teens and apathy, ignorance, the evils of the media, violence, hate, war and so much more. But enough of this, if you want to know what the album and the artist is all about, just listen to it.
