Biography: William Araujo

Rotterdam, Holland is home to the top Cape Verdean artists in the music industry and the talented 24-year-old Cape Verdean/Dutch, William Araujo is no exception.
Born on December 10th 1983, William discovered his passion for music at the age of six when his uncle gave him a guitar and a keyboard. With the encouragement of his family he later learned how to play other instruments. It was only a matter of time before William developed a passion for writing poetry and went on to win numerous poetry prizes.
At the age of 17 William started making a name for himself. His talent as a powerful lyricist is what caught the attention of Sebastian dos Santos. He was immediately put to work and wrote his first song “Joia” where he also featured on it along with Djey Ramos.

As an ambitious young artist: singing, writing and producing for himself and other artists was not enough for William. Gaining stage performing experience was vital and in addition to singing back-up for Johnny Ramos, William also performed solo acoustic acts.

In 2004 William co-wrote the song, “Sera’q bô ta amam”, with Just Jay and Eddy Parker for the hit album “So Jota”. Later in the year, William participated in Philipe Monteiro’s compilation album, “Philipe and Friends”, where he wrote “Um Lagrima” and co-wrote “Dos Amanti” and featured in both songs.
By 2005, the 21-year-old William was ready to debut as a solo artist and released “William 0-21”. With a cocktail of Zouk, R&B, unique song writing and acoustic guitar driven songs, the 14 track album featured artists such as Nichols, Angel, M&N, Marcos di Paulo, Damn-a-Rush, Djey Ramos, and more. The success of the album led him to perform at major stages such as the Dunya Festival alongside world renowned artists such as Sara Tavares and Boy Gé Mendes.
He has also performed in Cape Verde, England, Italy, Luxemburg and Portugal. William Araujo also took part in the 2006 Portugal Kizomba Tour with Splash, Gil, Nelson Freitas, Marcia, Mika Mendes, Loony Johnson and Elizio.
In addition to writing all the tracks on his debut album, William wrote and co-wrote 50 songs between 2004 and 2008 for Johnny Ramos, Djey Ramos, Philipe Monteiro, Neuza and more.

William Araujo is currently in the studio getting ready to re-conquest the ladies’ hearts and the zouk music industry with his sophomore album, “Re-Quest”, under the new label of Nelson Freitas called Ghetto Zouk Music. “Re-Quest” will be released November 2008.
