MP3 Surf Guitar Villains - Cadillac Smile

Garage Band weird returns in the rough but interesting Cadillac Smile - done ''Texas Style''...

9 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Psychedelic, POP: Quirky

Details:
What is a "Surf Guitar Villain", anyway?

Surf Guitar Villains are a Portland Oregon based recording and performing collective. The Villain sound is 60''s and demented, with some rough edges left in to escape the cold exactness of the digital new frontier. The Villains are not local guitar heroes, nor masters of grunge or rap, instead the Villains make original post-modern music, as they do not have the patience to learn and play anyone else''s.

The name, of course, is a play on words, ''Surf'' refers to the more Strat laden bright Ventures sound that pops out from tune to tune. It''s "spanky". The "guitar villain" part of the name really means ''not guitar heroes'' -- we are not Jimmy Page, Stevie Vai or Mark Knopfler -- not to mean vile chicken stomping self important rock stars.

Austin, Texas. The mood of the Surf Guitar Villains second CD is decidedly brighter than that of the dark "Return of Revenge". Cadillac Smile was begun in Portland, Oregon, but work opportunities made the band forage out in the center of Texas.

About the songs:

1. The Road Back
This is about auto travel, and getting back to home. The start and stop of the flow of travel, and life.

2. Life on a Napkin
This just started as a groove on guitar and grew to the question "what''s fair to begin with"?

3. Laura''s Song
Spontanous recording on a Gibson WM45, with harmonica on a head cold. Song for my wife.

4. Sultans of Surf
Take Thomas Dolby, add in the Beach Boys, and a surf addicted room-mate trying to get the babes, and this is what
you have - a Sultan of Surf. Recorded proudly in Austin, Tx.

5. Barcelona
Dodging the bulls in Spain.

6. Is it Really Us?
Voice is put through a meat grinder, harmonica is put at the bleeding edge of what you can do with a SanAmp. A minor masterpiece...maybe.

7. 200 Miles From Nowhere
Instrumental, too dark for Ken to play guitar on, so it was up to me.

8. Cadillac Smile
This is really a demo for our new vocalist. But it is played
cool Texas Style.

9. Garage Jam #22
Ken Drottar flamed away on this VERY loose garage jam session, with ad hoc lyrics added to the grove.
