Atlantis is hard house album with mixture of funk, jazz, acid jazz, pop, rockabilly and ambient sounds. If you are out clubbing, driving down the highway, chilling out or having a party- this album will float your boat. But just as you mellow out to the funky jazz modes, from nowhere the tune picks you up, tears off your head and rocks you out! I thought the Technics 1210 turntables were going to burst into flames when we slammed on the vinyl cut.
It has all the best ingredients – Selmer saxophones, Stradivarius trumpets, TB 303 synthesisers, Fender Rhodes pianos, Stratocasters, double basses, valve amps, vintage microphone and rack units. As a jazz saxophonist, Atlantis was technically challenging, but I just managed to shred over the hard edge beats. I was lucky enough to get jazz graduate (The Royal Marines band) Mat Davies on trumpet, to give some tracks (The Atlantean Clairvoyant & Crystal Dawn) that real touch of class.
Halfway through the album, I realised the production was extremely ambitious, so I had to completely rebuild the studio PC, to process the state of the art synthesisers, FX units, drums and complex mastering. When I laid down the vocal takes, we used the latest TC Helicon vocal units and 2 compressor units in series, just to match the power of the synths! Fans of the film “The Battle Of Britain” will remember how the prime minister was informed, that every single plane and pilot the RAF had, was scrambled and up in the air fighting that morning.
In my life, I could never match the honour, bravery and sacrifice of “The Few”, but humbly, we threw everything we had at the Atlantis album. From the latest PC motherboard, to the saxophone reeds, jazz theory, IT, software, years of research and even 15 years of dancing at the best night clubs – we threw in the best we could get, and gave everything we had. "I''m giving all she got captain" as again the pc crashed.
Atlantis was written and produced by Shawsax, aka Christopher Shaw, an experienced dance DJ, music technology graduate and professional saxophonist. The debut album “A flight Into The Abyss” received international radio air play and mp3 downloads. The music expresses Wicca, Shavism, the study of ancient religions, magik, spirituality and has many mysterious angles.
Atlantis is dedicated to my mum, only in dreams we meet, speak to the sunrise.
