Details:
In 2003, after the departure of Kamakazae and steppin into the hiphop scene, Daraja still had his eyes open for the next singer for his next R&B group. He knew he needed another great singer to sing the main leads and backgound vocals. Around 2003 at one of The My Block Speaks show, A young guy by the name of Geno signed the open mic list, and when turned came, lit up the stage with his smooth tenor voice. After the show Daraja and Geno talked for hours about music and the industry and later swiped numbers. “It took alittle time to get things rollin”, Geno stated. “Daraja was just at the ending stages of his last group Kamakazae, and was still tryin to decide his next move.” Daraja started recording his first Hip Hop Project “PoetKing” but mind was still deeply in R&B. Geno continued singing around town and doing features. By 2004 Daraja purchase his first studio downtown The Playa Lounge, and called Geno and said “Its Time”. Within a few sessions and weeks Geno & Daraja had a group name Club 803 (in reference to their Birth years) and their first few recorded songs. For the next few years Club 803 would perfect their skills and continue adding songs to their catalog. Daraja stated “At first it was alittle rocky, I wasn’t really use to Geno’s singing style and it took some time getting things to smooth out and also just getting to know who we are as a group. Unlike Kamakazae, I knew the last singer from Highschool, so about time we started recording Tha Bootleg Appeal (which eventually was pulled out of stores due to copyright issues) we knew exactly what to do or at least had an idea. With Club 803 it was all new, me and Geno had only been friends for like a year and hes younger than me, so we’re both kinda coming from two different times and places. By 2007 Daraja had dropped a few more projects and was recording Back Against tha Wall (a project steming from Devin The Dude''s new group the Coughee Brothaz). At the time, Daraja appeared to be on top his game, but really was a emotional mess. He was going through a very rough divorce and was going to jail for a charge he didn’t commit. “The club 803 project was still moving but moving slower now, Daraja was sentenced to go to jail and was rushing to finish The Back Against tha Wall Project before he had to go in. In 2008 Geno was still heating up the scenes in houston and started traveling to other cities and establishing more of a name for himself and Daraja was release from jail and had just drop the his follow-up to Back against tha wall, Lab Rat. Daraja eneded up in jail again due to posession of mariajuana. With it being Daraja''s 2nd marijuana case, he had to serve more time in jail, which push the album back another few months. In the midst of all, the Club 803 project continued on. Now out of jail and continuing even more harder, Daraja and Geno put the finishing touches on the Project. The albums called The Addiction, some may say and speculate this is reference to their addiction to marijuana, music, the fast life, money, or just simply love. But no doubt it has a story, and a very simple one. The album starts off with "Searchin”, a track that was also featured on Daraja''s "Back Against tha Wall" Project, highlighting their sexual desire for a certain woman’s shape and body. It moves on to the track "Bullshittin", pointing out clearly how certain loves can be beating around the bush with their relationship, and ends with "Fantasy". Confessing their infactuation with a fantasy like woman. The album also has two accapela tracks that showcases Geno’s sultry tenor voice and pays tribute to Donny Hathaway and Sam Cooke . A lot went into making this album and it''s the first of many to come. Its definetly gonna take you down that old school road with a twist of the new school wrapped up with it." So if you grew up on a lot of 90’s music, love Neo Soul, and Electronica music. You’ll definetly love Club 803 - The Addiction.
