The Summer''s End EP was recorded in Los Angeles after Richard Cranch was laid off from his job working at an internet company. Just then, he met musician Dana (Kruse) Woods at a barbeque in Silver Lake and fell madly in love. These songs document the events which took place in the wake of their meeting. Songs of love''s aching surrender, and the neurotic courtship of one sultry summer. Recorded in the sweltering heat of a studio apartment overlooking downtown, one can sense the stark realities, but also the magic of this city romance. Taking advantage of Richard''s unemployment, a 4 track recorder, and a new found muse, Richard and Dana create an epic work of independent low-fi music, possibly deserving a place beside your favorite Yo La Tengo and Elliott Smith albums. Gentle trading of soft vocals, warm acoustic strumming and shimmering electric guitar are the territory here. With subtle harmonic weaving of multiple e-bow layers, what sounds like a small thoughtful orchestra plays along in sympathy. A stimulating listen when sketching, painting or creating art. Carte Blanche has shared the stage with Silversun Pickups, Giant Drag, December Stars, Fly Better Broken, and other rising talent from Silver Lake California.
