Helen Amabel Eshleman (1892 - 1967) was my Great Grandmother. Though I never met her, I understand she was a rather eccentric woman. She would write poems, speeches and dedications for and about her family, friends, pets, love, death and war, as well as insects, skunks, baby raccoons and her garden club.
The majority of these songs are a selection of musical adaptations of her poems.
Tracks 1, 4 and 12 are based on traditional New England whaling songs.
Both Caitlin and I were born and raised on the coast of Massachusetts, and have an affinity for the sea and all the timeless magic and mystery it entwines.
