Details:
The Dish That Flew Away was recorded in 1989, in Sean Daly''s now defunct Benzedream studio in Staten Island, by singer/songwriter Rachel Barker (Harry''s Secretary, Jackalope), poet/guitarist Maggie Dubris (Lulu Revue, Homer Erotic), and drummer Bill Gerstel (Three Teens Kill Four, Rogues March).

The recording was conceived of as a one time studio project, intended to return to a way of working and recording that had gotten lost in the excesses of the eighties.

It was done on a professional 4 track machine, with a minimum of overdubbing, on a single weekend in the spring of 1989.

At the time, there was no cheap way of pressing the result, so it circulated only as cassette dubs to friends, and fans of other projects.

In 2002, the analog mixes were transferred to dat, and we were able to produce this CD.

BIOS Rachel Barker (vocals, guitar, keyboards) Rachel Barker was a founding member, lead singer, and guitarist for the New York punk band Harry''s Secretary, who performed in such New York City clubs as CBGB''s, Danceteria, and Max''s Kansas City in the 1970''s and early 80''s.

She then moved to England, where she founded the group Jackalope with guitarist Simon Dickenson.

She is currently raising two children, performing in clubs, and working on a full length CD with songwriting partner Maggie Dubris.

Sean Daly (recording engineer, producer, mixer) Sean Daly is the force behind Siren''s Call.

He currently lives in Paris where, among, other things, he collects and plays instruments from around the world.

Maggie Dubris (bass, guitar, back-up vocals) Maggie Dubris is the author of Weep Not, My Wanton (Black Sparrow Press 2002), and the chapbook WillieWorld, which came out from Richard Hell''s Cuz Editions in 1999.

In 2001, with writing partner Felicity Seidel, she co-wrote and co-produced a short film, Welcome to WillieWorld, (https://www.tradebit.com Scott Saunders) that premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival and has gone on to show in festivals across the US.

She was a founding member and songwriter/guitarist for the now-defunct all female band Homer Erotic (Homerica the Beautiful, Depth of Field Records), and in 2001 received an NEA fellowship in literature.

She has just finished a full length screenplay, The First Strange Adventure of the Bird, with Felicity Seidel, and is currently working on a literary-fantasy trilogy called BorderTown.

Bill Gerstel (percussion, back-up vocals) Bill Gerstel has been the border collie on more than one rock ranch, including time spent w/3 Teens Kill 4, Rogue''s March and the Mad Scene.

He continues to play the drums while reading The Cat in the Hat to his son, Sawyer.
