Details:
Marianne Turner’s debut EP Let Her Let Go is beautifully wrapped with compelling lyrics and a voice that embodies both strength and vulnerability. Her music is fundamentally based on very personal and intense struggles, and like so many great songwriters before her, Marianne perfectly captures the emotions of listeners with unapologetic songs of love, loss and the strength needed to let go. Exposing ego and humanness, her instincts are most powerful in live performance, where her presence, passion and conviction connect with her audience.

Marianne Turner was born in Ottawa, Canada, as were her two sisters and younger brother. Her biological history is a mix of African (Kenya) and French Canadian roots, and she was raised in Muskoka and North Bay, Ontario. Today she is rooted in Toronto, Ontario, writing and performing new songs as she becomes a force in Canada’s independent music scene.
Since the long awaited release of Let Her Let Go, produced by Juno-Nominated Douglas Romanow, Marianne is continuing to focus on her audience by increasing the potency and frequency of live performance. To develop her craft and evolve as an artist drives Marianne to stretch beyond her limits and draw from her diverse background, collaborations and relationships. The combination of her music theatre performance training from Sheridan College, studies with The Royal Conservatory of Music, the Producing Engineering Program and the Recording Arts Management Program at The Harris Institute for The Arts have prepared Marianne for a strong understanding of herself as an artist, as well as the creative communities surrounding her.
While Let her Let Go includes sessions recorded with a full piece band, Marianne is equally as captivating as an acoustic artist. Her creative experiences and her relatable, powerful songs have culminated in an emotionally charged performance. Inspired by personal experiences, her soulful and confessional lyrics are the most captivating of elements. Many of her songs arose from some kind of conflict, including her insatiable search for self-identity stemming from being an adopted child, and her acute and aggressive struggle and recovery from anorexia and bulimia. It is the strength with which she approaches these conflicts that contributes to her intensely powerful songs and ability to face and reconcile her demons.

Recently nominated for the Toronto Independent Music Awards for Best Folk Artist, Marianne can be heard on CBC’s national airwaves, as well as community and campus radio stations in the Toronto area. Marianne is a recipient of FACTOR’’s Demo Press Kit Award, and Kitchener’s “The Beat” 91.5 FM has also lent tremendous support in awarding Marianne with a full scholarship to The Harris institute for The Arts. With awards and chart success on https://www.tradebit.com including Best Female Vocals, Best Lyrics, Track of the Day and Track of the Week for “Butterflies” and “One Hundred and Eighty”, Marianne is slowly gaining momentum in her accomplishments. Her influences range from Fiona Apple to Paula Cole, The Cranberries and Alanis Morissette, and are immediately recognizable in her intelligent lyrics and stirring emotional performances. With several years of preparation and a strong debut release, it is clear that Marianne Turner is an artist to watch for.
