Details:
“Margo''s music — beautiful, fun and full of emotion.”

This CD serves as a showcase for five of the West and East Coast’s finest acoustic guitarists and many of the most illustrious jazz musicians of the Northwest. From the Wizard of Oz to a Beach Boys ballad, from early Ella Fitzgerald to a Carter Family ballad, this collection of songs is a sparkling gem in the vast, boring desert of jazz standards CD’s.

Concert Reviews:
“There is no doubt that Margo has a gorgeous voice and that she works with extremely talented musicians, but there is something else that makes her special — a certain honesty and warmth in her delivery that has the effect of reflecting all the love and happiness in your hearts, and stopping time for that perfect moment.” — Rhonda B.

“One of the best concerts we''ve ever presented!” — Jon E., Olympia Concert in the Parks producer

“There was a fabulous concert by Margo Murphy at Valdi''s in Seattle. Murphy is a jazz singer who is intimate with Gershwin, Cole Porter, and many of the classic American songwriters of the last century. When she sings, it feels like you are hearing the song in its purest form.” — Seattle Press On-Line (review)

A performer for over 20 years, Margo’s enchanting voice, clean approach and honest emotion allow the essential beauty of the songs to be heard, and audiences of all ages (and species) fall under the spell of her singing.

“I was trying to get some work done in my home office but my Weimaraner was driving me crazy because she was so restless. Then I happened to put on your CD and it calmed her right down! Kyashu and I give it 2 paws up!” — Marisa, dog owner

Biography
Margo grew up near the rocky beaches of Puget Sound outside Seattle. She was raised in a household where, as a young child, she was often lulled to sleep by the sounds of a jazz band rehearsing in the living room. At age 13 her mother smuggled her into a Seattle nightclub so that Margo wouldn''t miss seeing the great jazz organist Jimmy Smith.

After a few years living in the San Francisco Bay Area ("not enough rain!") and in Europe, Margo returned to the Pacific Northwest to put down her roots. And years later, her own young daughter, too, napped to the soothing sounds of her mother rehearsing with a jazz band in their living room.

When asked why Chemistry was 8 years in the making, Margo said jokingly, “I had to wait for my daughter to grow up more to be able to record a duet with her!” It’s the last cut on the album, The Winding Stream, which also features internationally acclaimed ukelele great, James Hill, and John Knowles, the Nashville Buddha of fingerstyle guitar.

Though Margo makes her home in Seattle, she also has strong connections with the San Francisco Bay Area music community and loves performing there with such jazz luminaries as guitarist Chris Grampp, violinist Julian Smedley and their combos. Besides jazz combos, Margo has sung in Irish, country/western, and swing bands. But her main love remains the jazz standards that she grew up with, as evidenced by her debut CD, Love You Madly, and her brand new CD, Chemistry.

Margo Murphy sings the Great American Songbook — popular songs of the 30''s, 40''s, and 50''s — with elegance and warmth. Her repertoire moves among swing, jazz ballads, pop and Latin — from classics to rare gems of Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, the Gershwins, Rodgers & Hart, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Norah Jones and other musical icons.

Whether working as a duo with a top jazz guitarist, fronting a jazz combo, or leading a popular Seattle concert and wedding swing band, Margo''s passion for the music shines through.
