Details:
Basic Astronomy is a Seattle-based electronic/folk band fronted by David Haldeman. His father was a writer for a classical music magazine, and was exposed heavily to that genre until later in childhood when he was introduced to electronic musicians Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dream, Jean Michel Jarre and Giorgio Moroder, among others.

He became obsessed with synthesizers and began writing music using a Casio keyboard and a cassette four track. In high school he began studying with American modern classical composer Ken Benshoof and writing soundtracks, eventually becoming the keyboardist for a gypsy rock band called Mr. Twit.

The Slow News Day EP is Basic Astronomy’s first release, and it clocks in at 22 minutes and took over six years to make. Additional musicians on the album include guitarist Greg Dunn of Mr. Twit, violinist Valerie Coon, drummer Jesse Honor, singer Sabina Ansari and bassist Alex Trzyna.
