Details:
Born January 17th, 1965 at 5:11am, in Smithtown, NY. it was snowing and but''s dad couldn''t get the car out of the driveway to go to the hospital, so "But" was born in the backseat of his parent''s Chevrolet... a capricorn with sagitarius rising and a cancer https://www.tradebit.come birthday as Jim Carrey, Muhammed Ali, Joe Frazier, Betty White, Benjamin Franklin and Kid Rock.

But''s parents forced him to listen at gunpoint to the soundtracks from "Oliver", "HMS Pinafore" and "Annie". Other records in their limited collection were "Beatles;Revolver", "Miles Davis+17", "Arlo Guthrie; Alice''s Restaurant", Mozart''s "Requiem" and Beethoven''s "9th Symphony". Ususally But would try to block out the noise from his parents by banging on pots and pans arranged in the shape of Ed Shaughnessy''s drum kit from the Johnny Carson Show. But''s Dad made the mistake of showing him a few
chords on a baritone ukelele and thus But''s guitar journey started. But learned all the barbershop quartet songs his parents would sing and he''d annoy them by taking long solos over their singing. Usually this happened on long car rides. But''s sister, Lisa "But" Browning, would scream at the top of her lungs when But did this, that made But proud. But''s dad, Paul "But" Kumpel, is a Mathematician at SUNY, Stony Brook and has fiddled with a piano for most of his life, especially around holidays. But''s mom, Carol "But" Landis, is a talented organist/pianiast at several local churches and attended the prestigious Eastman School of Music. She helped But figure out a Rush song when he got his first guitar by slowing down a record player and finding the fast notes at half speed. This electronic nature of music has plagued But ever since. He got a wah wah. He moved it around alot. He started his first band at age 8. "The Pilgrim Players" it was called. It consisted of all the local kids who would do whatever But said. All the girls were scared to play with him because of his reputation for being a "girl''s boy". But played a borrowed electric guitar through his father''s Wollensack reel to reel tape deck. The tape deck never sounded the same after that. But wrote his first song, "I Just Want To Be Free, F R E E E" at age 5. MP3 file available soon.

But''s elementary school music teacher, Claire "But" Kahn, was a big help in developing But''s musical arrogance. She let him take home every instrument the school had. Tuba, cello, trumpet, snare drum, trombone, flute, violin, clarinet and saxophone. But fell for the saxophone because the girls responded to it more than the other instruments. Because of this he never learned to play any more than "Three Blind Mice" on it, even though he played it for 9 years. He got into guitar more when his parents got him a teacher named Denise. She was sexy. But scared her away and started playing Led Zeppilin songs. When his friends said, "wow, cool" But knew he would be guitar player his whole life. He announced to his parents that he would be a professional guitar player some day and his dad said, "That''s not a very good idea". But immediately cut his Dad out of his will and vowed to become the greatest of the guitar players just to show his dad.

But played in all the high school bands. Marching Band (trombone, drums and drum major), Symphonic Band (saxophone and Baritone horn), Jazz Ensemble (guitar) and Rock Band (bass). But played the wierdest noise cheers for the basketball games and fellow students both feared and admired him for it. Anyway, he didn''t care for anything except the girls. And he got alot of them. He had a rock band outside school that switched names every month just to keep it interesting. Names like "Cygnus", "Distortion" and "Smashed Potatoes" were a few that got thrown out.
After high school But figured he''d go as far away as possible from his home. He ended up in Miami, Sun Tan U. But worked 6 nights a week in top 40 bands around Miami clubs to support himself.

After U of Miami But headed for New York City to be a professional musician. New York seemed to be the Mecca of creativity that But was hoping he could find a place in. But''s first NY apartment was cockroach infested. He would sometimes throw them into his Chinese food for flavor. He attributes his strong immune system to this. He played weddings on guitar on weekends, by the end of his 700 wedding tour he couldn''t get a wedding gig anymore because of his reputation for being a smart ass. He burned his tuxedo in a ritual he named "here comes the Bride: no more!!!". He started writing rock songs. He was on his way to big drama.

But continues to write songs and hopes they will someday bring him lots of money so he can buy a helicopter. Aside from making his own records, But also continues to produce records for other people.
