Details:
"The Yards'' superfunky debut launches with the groove-''til-ya-drop stutter of ''Sweet Potato Soup'' followed by the equally funkalicious ''Here Comes the Yard Man'', stirring New Orleans funk and Chicago soul into its melting pot. The temp-o-meter set to DANCE, the group then gallops through nine more whip-smart instrumentals without pause..."

''Stellar musicianship, plenty of slippery funk-bop, and mastermind chord progressions make this a stand out CD.''

''The Yards'' Bradford Hoopes is not your run-of-the-mill B3 minister. More testifyin'' than you''re likely to hear from today''s Hammond heroes. With near human-voice execution there resonates a feeling of life, loss, and redemption while serving up healthy doses of funky abandon...''

The Yards in 2005:

and sometimes, Tom Johnson - bass, trombone

HISTORY

The Yards'' debut was recorded Sunday, November 5, 2000 at Z''gwon,th Studios in Lawrence, Kansas, with Tom Johnson producing, engineering and playing bass. His brother Eric Johnson played guitar in the afternoon, and Brian Baggett replaced him in the evening. The record was remastered September 28, 2002 at Z''gwon,th by Tom Johnson, who also did the new graphics.

The Yards is the brainchild of keyboardist Bradford Hoopes and drummer Kelly White, who wanted to make an old-fashioned one-day-in-the-studio record. There were no rehearsals...just an overall aesthetic to create an authentic New Orleans funky Meters vibe, instrumentation-, arrangement- and engineering-wise, circa 1969.

Having shared the stage with John Scofield in St. Louis, MO and Boulder, CO, and Toots & the Maytals and Karl Denson''s Tiny Universe in Lawrence, KS, The Yards continue to unleash their brand of vintage jazz-funk on unsuspecting masses throughout the cosmos. Watch for The Yards on the loose in your neck and torso.
