The Conversation is El Paso, TX native Jared Putnam. In 1999 after performing with various other projects Putnam formed Level and toured extensively throughout the United States and Canada. Shortly after the inception of the project, Level released an EP titled "The Story of a Boy" which soon fell into the hands of local indie label Shade Records. In 1999 Shade released the bands self-titled full-length album.
In April of 2001 former Hollywood Records A&R rep Scott Liken helped produce a new demo, recording "Gift of Silence," "In The Middle," and "Green." The three songs were recorded at Maddog Studios by Bryan Carlstrom (Alice In Chains, Social Distortion, Offspring) and mixed at Track Record Studios. The tracks were mastered by Brian Gardner (Jimmy Eat World, Sparta, Snoop Dog) and produced by Marshall Altman (Diffuser, Frankie Machine).
In January of 2002, the band changed its name to The Conversation and began touring the United States extensively. In November of 2002 the band signed to Dead Letter Records out of St. Paul, MN and released "Last In Line," a collection of eight tracks recorded, mixed and mastered by Mike Major (At The Drive In, Sparta) combined with the Altman tracks. Shortly after, the band regenerated into a solo project for Putnam.
Now on the eve of releasing his solo debut full-length album "Blue" (Dead Letter Records) Putnam has been touring full-time since September of 2002 and has sold over 4,000 copies of The Conversations debut full-length "Last In Line." "Blue" was recorded and mixed by John Glover in Orange County, CA and produced by both Putnam and Glover and mastered by Kevin Nettleingham (Deep Elm Records'' artists) at Nettleingham Audio.
