"The Movies" was formed in September 2003 in Riga by the
six creative heads - Sergey Jaramishyan, Michail Sergeyev,
Andrew Vasilyev, Yury Just, Ints Barkans and Xenia Sundeeva.
The new-born band was greately inspired by such artists as
"My Bloody Valentine", "Ride", "Slowdive", "Radiohead",
"Massive Attack", "Sigur Ros".
Music of "The Movies" contains many characteristic features
of the abovementioned bands. The musicians themselves define
their style as something between shoegaze and hippynoise.
It is the only band in Latvia representing such a style.
Their music combines strong emotions, psychodelic
dreaming and gentle agression.
After 3 months of their existence the first single appeared on
radio stations and very soon it became Hit No.1 on the
Latvian Alternative Radio "Naba". According to the social
voting it was admitted as the best single of the year 2004.
In summer "The Movies" obtained many high awards on
the leading festivals of Latvian bands. "The Movies" participate
actively in club concerts throughout Latvia. Their music and
video are played on such top radio stations and TV
channels as SWH, Naba, LNT and LTV.
