Details:
The Swiftys have been termed as both old school country and modern outlaws. Their original material has been influenced by country greats such as Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and Steve Earle, as well as by rock ''n'' roll legends CCR and The Band.

Coming together in the spring of 2002, The Swiftys have shared the stage with the likes of Lucinda Williams, Fred Eaglesmith, Marty Stuart, The Sadies, Rodney Crowell, Bernie Leadon and many, many more .

The band is fronted by singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Shawn "Swifty" Jonasson (Old Reliable, House of Payne, Jen Kraatz and the Whispers). Shawn has performed on a number of albums on a variety of instruments and has also rocked clubs and festivals across Canada. He''s known for his arranging and songwriting talents, musicianship on guitar, keyboard and saxophone.

On upright/electric bass and background vocals is Jody "Thump" Johnson (Wendell Donovan, House of Payne, Mike Caldwell), a seasoned veteran despite his youth. Jody has been entertaining in many diverse musical settings for over a dozen years.

Grant "Stovetop" Stovel (Sue Foley, Brent Parkin, Don Johnson) is a highly called upon blues drummer in Western Canada. His open-mind, charisma and skills on the drum kit have seen him perform with many renown artists throughout North America.

Currently, The Swiftys are excited to be supporting their debut eponymous release, The Swiftys. The record charted at number 7 of the top 100 on CKUA Radio for 2003 and has been receiving rave reviews from press such as The Edmonton Sun, Winnipeg Free Press, !exclaim, and Country Music News.

The Swiftys (Independent)
It''s a Saturday afternoon. Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash are living in Edmonton and work their way through the snow to toss back a few as they plug the VLTs at the Rose and Crown pub. They get up for the afternoon jam and are visited by unexpected guests bearing dobros, violins (not fiddles), cellos, bowed basses, Hammond M3 organs, alto saxophones, trumpets and congas to create something familiar yet undeniably different. They play pretty ballads, outlaw country rockers, a pretty decent version of Only Daddy That''ll Walk The Line and even an instrumental mariachi number!
The Swiftys are a trio led by Old Reliable guitarist Shawn "Swifty" Jonasson and are following a trail traveled by fellow Albertan and buddy Corb Lund. However Jonasson is more influenced by traditional 70''s country - with a few daring twists and turns - than the 50''s and 60''s feel of Corby''s work.

Country music, in its essence, is all about what you make of the workin'' man''s ache. The best country tells folk tales with a simplicity, honesty, and passion that makes them universal. This is why people will still be listening to Johnny Cash: At Folsom Prison decades from now. It''s also why new groups like The Swifty''s tap into those old folk roots for a sound that transcends eras. The Edmonton threesome-vocalist/guitarist Shawn "Swifty" Jonasson, stand-up bass player Jody "Thump" Johnson, and drummer Grant "Stovetop" Stovel-thump, shuffle, swing, ramble, and hurt in the Cash style of acoustic pickin''. With an appreciation for other old-timers like Waylon and Merle, as well as newer alt-groups like the Jayhawks and Wilco, also bleeding through, there''s a sense that Jonasson, also a member of Old Reliable, has a side project that''s more than just diversionary. Whether he''s singin'' about playing cards at the Rose and Crown Pub or sitting by the Bow River, there''s a sense of something that reaches much further and deeper. The Man in Black has passed on, but it''s what he''s passed on to others that matters the most.

Built around former Old Reliable main man Shawn Jonasson, this new trio strips that band''s sound down to the bare essentials, and as a result comes up with an authentic outlaw country sound. It''s uncanny, in fact, how Jonasson and company are able to channel the spirit of Waylon Jennings into this debut album. I''m sure ol'' Hoss would have given his full blessing to songs like "Find Another Fool" and "Misty." They even take a stab at Waylon''s trademark "Only Daddy That''ll Walk the Line," with great reverence. But there''s much more going on as well. Jonasson''s multi-instrumental talents fill out the sound nicely, and his songs ring with a depth of loneliness that can only come from the Canadian prairies. While the Swiftys'' sound may be too traditional to break through to the wide alt-country crowd, it can''t be argued that these guys are the real deal, and following in the footsteps of people like Jennings who made country music great.

The Swiftys you see are unmistakably country... they drip with it"
- Fish Griwkowsky, Edmonton Sun

From the moment Jonasson croons his first few lines his voice sounds like a close cousin to Johnny Cash''s, as deep and strong as an old scotch whiskey"
- Jenny Feniak, Vue Magazine

"The Swiftys deliver their material with the same driving beat and Telecaster guitar sound that identified Waylon Jennings music."
- Larry Delaney, Country Music News
