THE EMERALD GREEN VORTEX is the first in a series of TRIPHOPERAS. This term describes a new marriage of musical formats. It is the rebirth of Opera within the context of modern music. The emphasis here is on the versatility and precision with which the cast can transform a mere light show into a deep and moving drama.

By introducing popular trip-hop music as a sounding board for operatic performance, a new genre of musical entertainment has been born. It has the vibrancy, unpredictability of trip-hop while maintaining the traditional composure of classical opera. This entire concept is radically exciting. We have tackled some of the most socially delicate issues of the day, and in doing so created a rich, satisfying rhapsody of sound and sight.

Each TRIPHOPERA is created using one primal element. The Emerald Green Vortex is born within the context of Water. Because of the ambivalent qualities of water, the audience and actors are able to pursue a variety of interpretations. In this production, death under any circumstance produces an instant vacuum. Water is the element which best illustrates life. Because water can support life, nurture life and, is often thought of as the source of life, it is an excellent atmosphere for The Emerald Green Vortex to begin.

Each of us experiences life at differing degrees of intensity. The Emerald Green Vortex hopes to give solace to the soul by offering the victim something with which to hold onto. Whenever confronted with sudden trauma, lives are turned inside out in a blink of an eye.

The Emerald Green Vortex relives the event then coaxes the victim into reconnecting their soul with their spirit. The terror of dying blinds the soul to life. The Emerald Green Vortex reconstructs and regenerates the notion of eternal life by intertwining modern techno-drama (trip-hop) with established stage presence (opera).

THE EMERALD GREEN VORTEX

We grasp, we struggle and we twist and turn trying to regain control of our lives, only to slip away finding no peace in the old and confusion and uncertainty in the new. Comfort and compassion are vital keys for the trek into the regeneration cycle of life and death. The characterization of the transition of these elements challenges the audience to understand more than is revealed. Opera challenges the listener to see beneath the veneer and into the heart, as does the TRIPHOPERA.

The Emerald Green Vortex symbolizes the transient nature of the individual and has been actualized as a bottle containing the ashes of a loved one, tenderly tossed asea, by another lost in grief. It is the visceral element of the moment that The Emerald Green Vortex is meant to amplify. Each song, each actor releases a new energy upon the collective mind of the audience. The sounds, the visual impact, the raw energy of the production impacts with mach force. The audience is compelled to empathize with The Emerald Green Vortex.

The poetry of life is amplified through the fluid interaction of well choreographed dancers, swimming as it were, into the element. This is intensified through the sound and sights on stage. The Emerald Green Vortex is an emotional event of sharing and caring, for oneself as well as of another. It is produced, performed and received in the belief that we will all find happiness and completion.

It is an event of a lifetime. Every aspect of the production is designed to maximize the technology of the times while respecting the honor and dignity of life.

This is a TRIPHOPERA... This is The Emerald Green Vortex, produced by Thomas Tree, Walter Clissen, Mazen Daouk. Sound design by Walter Clissen. Stage script written by Thomas Tree, Albert Crane, and Walter Clissen.

TRIPHOPERA - created by subsonic sonar, is a mix of trip-hop and electronic ambience and opera. This concept record tells the story of an underwater fantasia based on the human drama of true love, tragic loss, and spiritual redemption. Set within an oceanic environment of sound and imagery, the recording follows our collective journey through suffering the devastating loss of someone we dearly love, the psychological and emotional pain our hearts and minds endure, and our search for meaning when beauty and youth are cut short forever. Riding above crushing waves of sound and twirling dervishes are enchanting tales of madness and sunshine. This underwater opera is of dark beauty and possession, wailing with loss and liquid flowing into an emerald green vortex. A place to roam the galaxies with complete abandonment and joy to the core of enlightenment.

Formerly of the band Christy McCool, members of Subsonic Sonar have been featured on the compilation CD Funky Metal with The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Faith No More, Fishbone, L7, Hole, and Pigmy Love Circus, and have toured with Husker Du, Firehose, Queensryche, Bad Brains, Was Not Was, New Order, and Grave 45, and had a featured track in Robert Altman''s movie Short Cuts along with Elvis Costello, Bono, Duke Ellington, Iggy Pop, Peggy Lee, and Ivor Stravinsky. After the release of their CD Lovelier Than the Queen of England, Christy McCool was nicknamed "Jane''s Addiction''s lil'' sister" by the newspaper Rheinisch Post out of Berlin, Germany. Prior to Christy McCool in the late 80''s, Thomas Tree formed The Bodhitrees, a Hollywood based band that the L.A. Times called a "Donovan-Beatlesque-Dr. Seuss song-writing team." In Spring of 2009, Thomas Tree will release Project Fancypants-Mr. Confidential inspired by the 1920''s.

"We know only that our entire existence is forced into new paths and disrupted, that new circumstances, new joys, and new sorrows await us, and that the unknown has its uncanny attractions, alluring and at the same time anguishing." - Henrich Heine - "After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music." - Aldous Huxley - "Don''t you know?...you never really know." -Helena Murray - "You have to treat each person as an individual...and respect the dignity of the individual." - Paul Vincent Murray -
