Christopher Stravener is a songwriter based in London in the United Kingdom who composes and records with a wide range of musicians and producers. First and foremost, he is fascinated by the challenge of using songwriting as a form of storytelling. “Each song should be like a short story,” he says, “but contain enough ambiguity to allow the listener to take the narrative and make the story his or her own. You need to leave enough space for people to put themselves into the song as a character or, at least, a sympathetic observer”. For his latest project, “Life After The Dictators”, a CD of ten songs, Stravener has tried to re-create the feel of the mid-seventies as a starting point of reference. Abandoning the use of keyboards entirely, this guitar driven set of songs has the sound of a pre-digital age filtered through modern production values.
