Thought Crime is an energetic 5-piece hard rock band hailing from the East Bay Area of Northern California. Following in the footsteps of other local bands who have since stepped up to the national level such as Green Day, Rancid, AFI, and Papa Roach, Thought Crime is building a strong, loyal following all around the Bay Area and beyond, playing at venues such as Slim''s in San Francisco, Graceland Seattle, The Pound SF, and the legendary 924 Gilman St.
Thought Crime formed in 2001 and began playing out shortly thereafter. They released their first CD, a self-titled 6-song EP, in the spring of 2001 after being together for only a few months. Due to extensive self-promotion it sold nearly 2,000 copies in a year.
Their excellent first effort, along with their professionalism and dedication have earned them the opportunities to play with such acts as Face to Face, Machinehead, Skinlab, Thrice, The Movielife, Death Angel, One Man Army, Midtown, Unjust, EMB, and Fingertight. They also recently the 2002 Vultures Row Battle of the Bands contest on Treasure Island in San Francisco where they competed against 9 other local bands. They were the unanimous winners chosen by a panel of five judges from the music industry.
Thought Crime''s original dark but catchy sound has been defined as "bi-polar rock" due to their ability to change up tempos and styles often in their songs, but at the same time keep them well structured and friendly to the ear. And although there are a lot of rock and metal influences prevalent, as well as melodic vocals layered with screaming, their experimental, hardcore and punk influences really stand out in their music and keep them from being crammed into the "new metal" genre.
Their original sound is working, because Thought Crime is currently getting airplay on local radio stations such as San Francisco''s Live 105.3, Sacramento''s KWOD 106.5, Oakland''s 93.7 KOOX, and Concord''s 90.5 KVHS. Thought Crime is currently promoting for & touring the West Coast in support of their debut full-length album entitled Broken Spirits which was independently released late March 2003.
