Details:
I was born in San Diego, CA. a long time ago. I grew up mostly in Alaska and graduated there from college at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks with a BFA in Art. While I was an undergrad, I played music on the side as an extra form of income. Starting out as a solo artist, I focused on a straight-forward, pure, sound. With influences favoring the 70''s era rock, I integrated that style with with my own. My favorites were: Crosby, Stills and Nash; Joni Mitchell; Led Zeppelin; Eagles; Jame Gang; Jimi Hendrix; you know, the good guitar and vocal stuff...somehow that''s missing in music now.
After going to college in Fairbanks, I moved to Arizona where I went to Graduate School for Art. I hung out with the classical guitar master players who were the only other students drinking coffee at the only euro-coffee stand available on campus...right in front of the Museum of Photography. There we would solve all the world''s problems.
Like Art, Music these days favor ugliness. I guess one might say that Art and Music immitate life...have you ever seen Art from the Depression days? Give it a long look and tell me you won''t cry. The music I make has its roots based in the 70''s. I remember when our country went to Vietnam and how the events and music of that time were different than what we hear now. I still long for a sense of beauty in the Art I see and in the music I hear. During the time of the 70''s in all its chaos, people held a high sense of hope and really tried to make things right with their voices and opinions. During our present time, I can see very similar events happening...not just style, but in ideology. We need to take back control of our lives and not leave our basic rights in the hands of big business or over zealous religious groups. We still have a voice and we must use it.
Namaste is a compilation of original music I created during a difficult time in my life. I called the CD Namaste because I didn''t know if I was going to get through the huge losses I was experiencing. Being a musician has its certain stigmatas when you are trying to be a parent, be married and be an Artist at the same time. Our current judicial system thinks creative types are selfish and irresponsible. This is absolute b.s.. There are plenty of people I know that are not creative and are horrible parents, cheat on their spouses, lie and abuse the system. They are people that hold offices representing us, check out our groceries, pump our gas, write prescriptions, etc. I lost my children and my marriage during the time I wrote, Namaste. However, it was the music I was creating that gave me life...it altered my attitude. Namaste is a big thank you to those that believed in me. To those that are miserable, maybe the music can provide you with some peace. To those that have been wronged by something or someone, this is an album for you. I hope it provides some relief.
I am not the best business person. In fact, I suck at it. However, I''m a good performer and a decent songwriter. Many of my songs are inspired by my mistakes. They definitely speak about my experiences. There are hundreds of songs I''ve written not represented on Namaste. It''s costly to come up with the finances to record all your ideas. Maybe you''ll like this and I''ll be able to do more.
All the songs are autographical in that I experienced them all...lyrically and in audio. The album is very different from the structure in which it was created. I even feel that several of the songs may be over-produced. However, I worked with one of the best guitar players and engineers of the Portland area...Ronn Chick. The whole album consists of original songs written and performed by me with the talent of Ronn Chick''s guitar playing, drum programming, bass and key patches to enhance arrangements we felt were cool at the time. "Difficult Destiny, Higher Ground and Shake her Soul" are 3 songs with little production. "For Love and I Wait" are a very different sound than what was originally intended.
Now my life has slowed down. I am remarried and have another baby boy. My current husband is a musician as well. We are putting together another CD. This time it will be in a much rawer state of production. Sometimes less is more. I am very much influenced by music that contains an ethnic subtleties. I love the music of Persia and India. I also like folk-acoustic instruments current to those played in our country. I''ve become more outspoken politically and about my beliefs. My relationships with people are healthier and my music now reflects this. I still write lyrics autographically. However, when you grow up, you think and feel differently. You still may not be right, but you''re getting closer to being true.
Enjoy the music. Namaste, Tina
