"Lyrically brave" is how Acoustic Guitar magazine describes the music of Jackie Tice, adding, "Tice''s songs capture instances of universal recognition and appeal. Her ode to a Dublin pub, ''The Marijo Tonight,'' is a guitar player''s ''Piano Man,'' and as bittersweet as John Prine''s ''Angel from Montgomery,''"

A Kerrville New Folk Award-winner, Jackie writes lyrics that transcend time and embrace human experience. Seated in the tradition of folk, yet dancing with elements of pop and jazz, Jackie''s trademark rhythmic guitar style is infused with a feeling of aliveness. Her colorful alto voice graces melody with both fiery passion and stark sensitivity.

It is Jackie''s search for common elements and emotions that has led her on many journeys. She has traveled to the Hopi mesas, busked on the streets of Philadelphia, performed at world peace demonstrations, volunteered in soup kitchens, counseled battered women, and taught music to children. As Jackie explains in one of her newest songs, "I lay myself wide open, just to see what happens...to me." [Wide Open].

The intensity with which she approaches everything in life, from being a wife and mother of two children to constantly honing her songwriting and performing as a touring singer/songwriter, is precisely what makes her songs, melodies and performances unforgettable. She''s been called "an eloquent storyteller whose songs elevate common experience with subtle layers of meaning," (Richard Fox, WCUW), and an artist with "a poet''s touch," writing about "complex, believable characters who grow more vivid with each listen," (R.A.B. Perch, Folk Acoustic Music Exchange).

Jackie was raised in a Montgomery County, PA steel mill town, and grew up with six brothers and sisters, and enough songwriting fodder, she says, "to last a lifetime." She studied classical piano as a child, giving recitals of Beethoven and Mozart pieces by age twelve and playing Bach chorales on a full-sized pipe organ in church on Sundays by age fourteen. At seventeen, Jackie was playing guitar and writing songs. She began performing on the open mike circuit in Pennsylvania along with her friend, John Gorka, and later moved to Washington, DC where Mary Chapin Carpenter introduced her to the music scene.

Today, Jackie Tice has three albums to her credit, artist endorsement deals with John Pearse Strings and Audix Microphones, a long list of kudos from major music media in the US, Australia, Italy and Canada, and recognition from many of her fellow artists whose work she admires. "I love your songs," Lucinda Williams said to Jackie backstage at the Kerrville Festival. "I thought it was a consolation prize," Jackie explains. A few minutes later, Jackie was called on stage to accept the Kerrville New Folk award. She is also a Telluride Troubadour finalist, and recipient of Philadelphia''s People''s Choice award.

Christine Lavin, folk diva of New York City, endorsed Jackie by declaring Jackie''s song, The Marijo Tonight, "a modern-day classic" and including it on her compilation CD, The Stealth Project: Music Under The Radar.
