Details:
"Music is the one thing in life that allows us all to come together and celebrate no matter what our differences are. From the birth, to the speech, to the thought, to the world, universe... music is the true universal language of life."
-tina marie

In the vein of N'' Dea Davenport of Brand New Heavies, Amel Larrieux of Groove Theory and with a vocal quality and tone reminiscent of Karen Carpenter this soul singer conjures up these and other songstress role models with her writing and interpretation. In this four song sampler Tina Marie reveals a lyrical range from pop to hip-hop laid over a jazzy groove. In an industry where format is favored, when something fresh arrives on the scene who feels it knows it Lord.
"I was raised in a household where my mother played the piano at home and organ at church. I loved hiding in the choir loft behind the congregation because I could really sing the way I wanted to. At home my mom''s favorites were Roberta Flack, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, Neil Diamond, the Clancy Brothers and the Carpenters. My first albums were America''s Greatest hits, Chicago, Seals and Croft and Simon and Garfunkel. I grew up in middle America falling asleep with the radio playing in my ear."

Tina Marie started out playing the piano but basketball and track practice won out over the keys. When she went away to Interlochen Arts Academy for her last two years of high school she was reunited with music through writing at this prestigious school of the arts, the alma mater of Jewel and Josh Grobin.
"Interlochen opened a whole new world for me. My roommates were opera singers, actresses and played in the orchestra and jazz bands. I was a creative writing major but always felt I was missing out by sitting back and observing."
She approached singing through theater first and then jazz classes at New College of California with renowned bass player Herbie Lewis who would invite her on stage to sing at his gigs at the old Yoshi''s and Rasella''s.
"Singing is the one thing that humbles me to my essence. I didn''t want to come out doing only covers or singing the classics. I''ve taken the time to find my voice and write lyrics that reflect my feelings and experiences. I wanted to start by having something to say but making people feel good and want to groove."

The four song "riddim & soul" sampler is a collaboration with talented new producer Ryan Daisley. "Ryan and I decided to collaborate on some songs with his Carribean and reggae influences and my bluesy soul style singing so I called it ''riddim'' the rasta word for rhythm & soul because that was the idea that got us started."
It starts out with the driving r & b flavored "Hold On Hold Up", then skips into the jazzy hip-hop infused "Sister" featuring a young new rapper Olomara aka Double "o", "Mama" a story told over a funky deep groove features Azeem veteran Bay Area rapper keeping it real, and "Take Some Time" a pop, cartoony and reggae infused ode that reminds us to relax.
"I wrote it as a mantra to myself because I get so caught up with the being and doing and wanting and getting that I forget to just take life in and enjoy it. Every moment is precious and it''s an amazing thing to be alive at this time. Look around you, breathe, be positive, and take the time to talk to people and enjoy every day. "

Look for a full release from Tina Marie on the horizon as collaborations with new producers are in the works and there''ll be more to keep your body, mind and soul grooving to real soon. Stay tuned.
