Just In Case, Sing!

…BUT I ALWAYS SANG, JUST IN CASE

I''m a southern girl, from a small city called Lakeland, Florida. I have always enjoyed music, melodies and singing. Mom says that even as a toddler, pots, pans, and plastic spoons satisfied the spirit of my percussion.

I went through school quite like most other children, but I really enjoyed singing. I thought that being on stage was like being chosen to sing for a cast of God''s Angels.

But, I always sang - To my peer and family....and in the bathroom...

The day I graduated from high school, my father presented two options; A few thousand dollars to go out on Broadway and "find my place" or attend college to further my education. Somewhere deep down inside, I wanted to take the first offer, but something inside of me said, "go on to college and get an education" just in case the music thing doesn''t work out the way I''d planned.

But, I always sang - In the church choir or at birthday parties...

I attended Florida Southern College, were I was given a scholarship to sing classical music, Opera, to be exact. Being in classical music proved phenomenally exceptional for me. I was able to travel overseas as an exchange student, and even studied under some of the most re-known opera singers of the century. I found the French to be interesting people, with a culture rich in knowledge of Liberal Arts, les cuisine d’excuse, history, music, and wine, to name the least. So I decided that I should go ahead on and learn the language, Just In Case I may have needed it some day.

But I always sang - In music recitals in the states and in Paris...

After I received an undergraduate degree, I taught elementary school for several years and I decided that I enjoyed teaching so much that I might as well go ahead and advance myself through a graduate program. So, I enrolled at The University of Central Florida, and received my master''s degree in Specialized Reading in Education, just in case my singing career didn''t pan https://www.tradebit.come, I stood in line for two days, auditioning to participate in American Idol. It tickled me, the way the judge informed me, “You have a unique and beautiful voice, but you''re not exactly what we’re looking for. Then I got ‘snipped’ – that’s when your identification badge gets cut from your wrist, banning you from the next round.(smile)

But I always sang - To the children that I taught each day...

I moved to Atlanta in search of my dream of singing. I spent endless nights in many studios, laying out the songs and lyrics that inspired me each day. I kept a mini cassette player with me at all times, just in case a unique tune would pop into my head. I spent many nights singing at gigs, radio station parties, and night clubs as I worked toward a life long dream.

But I always sang - Every opportunity that was given...

I soon realized that I would need to have my hair done if I wanted to be on the cover of a CD. I didn''t want to rely on others to do my hair, so I went to cosmetology school, in the evenings to gain a license.

But I always sang - To others at cosmetology school...

Then, one day, I thought I might just give up and do something different, as it seemed to me that I would not meet my life’s ultimate goal. So, I decided to go to Truck Driving School to learn how to drive big rigs. I got my CDLs, just in case I might, desire to drive rigs. Perhaps, traveling over the world would inspire me. Ironically, I met the love of my life there and he just happened to be my truck driver training instructor! I took out my life''s savings, to help pay expenses for him to go to school for music engineering. He accepted and soon completed the program.

But, I always sang - To my Fiancée...

I began to realize how much I enjoyed the administrative components of education. I really wanted to work on my music CD, but I found that I was advancing so much in graduate school, Argosy University. I earned a Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and two years later, attained a Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership and Supervision, just in case my singing career didn''t pan out.

But I always sang - In special projects that were assigned in graduate school...

I began handing out my applications for an assistant principal position. I was offered several positions in different counties around Georgia. However, low and behold....Something unexpected happened... I got sick!
I knew I had been feeling really fatigue, weak, and in pain. I went to the doctor and was diagnosed with Chronic Rheumatoid Arthritis. My life changed Overnight! I found myself struggling to accomplish everyday activities. Walking became an strenuous task for me. All of my planned “just in cases” seemed to fall under.

But I always sang...

Soon after a special prayer request was placed, God seemed to move in my life. I was inspired by the historical events of the coming of America’s 44th president. Just to see the “Son of Light” was so appealing to me. I gained a sense of calm through adversity. I wrote a song for President Elect Barack Obama, and entitled it after my inner most vision of him, “Son of Light.” I was able to work on a music project that moved me as well as many others involved. Many people ask for things to be given to them, but I find true joy in being the giver. So I will donate 50% of "Son of LightCD proceeds toward the continued advancement of the Obama Campaign. Giving never felt better, than now! Through my dreams, I am able to make a difference in an important time of change.

But I always sang, to the First Family and President of the United States..

With the help and support of my magnificent husband, we are now creating beautiful music and I believe that the dream is being revealed, note by note, melody by melody. Today, I sing because I feel that life''s adversity has given me purpose, reason, passion to thrive onward, and a melody to share with the world.

Now, ask yourself, What is my destiny? To be a leader? To be a truck driver? To be a student? To be a teacher? To be a cosmetologist? A contestant? A role model? Then ask yourself, What does it take to accomplish these treasured goal(s)? No matter how bad you want to reach a dream, you have to be willing to go through the storm and come up again, with the force of a thousand soldiers, you can because I could!

Just in case you need some encouragement today, start by understanding that EVERY step is an anticipation of the next. If you want to attempt to explore the possibilities of making a thought or dream reality, you have to want to do it. There must be a deep, strong desire within you! The possibilities are endless, and yes, YOU CAN! God only, knows your tomorrow. Although I''ve come far from the days of pot and pan audio, I press onward each day toward my vision of a wonderful CD project.

But no matter the cause, I continue to sing...

Take time to Stop, Love, and Move On!
