Meet the Band

Our highest goal is to give the Lord God the honor and glory that He is so worthy of. We seek to accomplish this by making known the Person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ through lyrics grounded in scriptural principles accompanied by contemporary instrumentation. It is our hope and prayer that the Lord will use this ministry to draw unbelievers into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, as well as encourage true believers to grow in Christ likeness.

Paul''s Testimony

No one is born a "Christian". No amount of religious activity can make someone a follower of Jesus Christ in the biblical sense. According to the Bible, a person must turn from his or her sin (repentance) and surrender his or her life to Jesus Christ (saving faith) to receive the forgiveness of sins and eternal life. There must be a new birth; a spiritual birth. Jesus said, "Truly, truly I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the Kingdom of God" (John 3:3). Here is my story of how the Lord has so graciously brought me into His Kingdom.

In February of 1985, my best friend and I traveled to Nashville, Tennessee to attend a concert. We arrived in blizzard-like conditions; it was the worst snowstorm to hit Nashville in years and as a result we were snowbound in our hotel.

In the room next to ours at the hotel we met Ken, a gentleman in is fifties who drove down to Nashville from Oregon in a Jeep for a business convention. He was a generous man who genuinely cared for our well-being. Ken showed us great kindness by driving us into town to get food; and to the concert several days later. We soon discovered that Ken was a "born again" Christian. He spent time with us in our hotel room telling us about Jesus Christ and the fact that we are all sinners who need forgiveness and new (spiritual) life. He was the first person who ever plainly presented the biblical Gospel to me. Ken even let me take his personal Bible into my room to read one night…the seed was planted.

The following December, I asked my mother for a Bible for Christmas. Though I was raised in a loving home it was not a biblical Christian home. Therefore, my mother was surprised at this request. Over the next several years I read the Bible on my own. I would read for a few weeks, get convicted, and then put the Bible down for weeks. However, the Spirit of God continually drew me back to the Word of God, the Bible.

As the years passed, two important truths became very apparent to me. The first truth was the wickedness of my own heart. For years I thought I was a good person. After all, I was somewhat outwardly moral and I never murdered anyone! As I read the Sermon on the Mount, the Lord revealed to me the selfishness, pride, rebellion and idolatry that was really in my heart. The second truth that became apparent to me was the beauty and glory of Jesus Christ. The Lord began to open my eyes as to who Jesus Christ really is. I came to see that He was not just a great teacher, but the Son of God who came and died in my place as my substitute. He bore the punishment that I justly deserved so that I could be forgiven and brought into relationship with God. I was grieved by my sin and overwhelmed by His love and mercy. In 1990 the Lord, by His sovereign grace, opened my heart bringing repentance and I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ as my Lord and personal Savior. It has been a glorious journey since then. I hope and pray that you too have this new life that is found only in the Lord Jesus!

PAUL PAOLI - Lead Vocals, Acoustic & Electric Guitar, Fiddle

Birthday: April 19th
Hometown: Farmingdale, NY
Musical Influences:
Acoustic Guitar – Paul Simon, Steven Curtis Chapman
Electric Guitar – John Jorgenson, Dickey Betts, Tommy Crain and B.B. King
Fiddle – Charlie Daniels, Vassar Clement and Phil Gelfer

BACKGROUND BIOGRAPHY

In 1990 Paul Paoli came to saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. It was then that his life was forever transformed by the sovereign grace of Almighty God.

Several years earlier Paul picked up a musical instrument for the first time at the age of 18. After much hard work, he was playing the fiddle professionally within two years. After that he taught himself the guitar and began singing. Over the next eight years Paul performed in bands opening up for acts such as The Gregg Allman Band, The Oakridge Boys, Johnny Cash, The Marshall Tucker Band, Steve Wariner and Dickey Betts and Great Southern, among other national groups. During this time he performed as far north as Connecticut and as far south as Florida.

As time passed, Paul began to be overwhelmed by a sense of futility and emptiness while playing songs that at best brought no glory to God and at worst were lyrically offensive to the Lord. In 1995 Paul quit the band that he was playing in and began to play in the worship team in his local church that same year. In 1997 Paul’s desire to play music had all but faded. That year he stopped playing altogether as he pursued theological studies at a biblically based, doctrinally sound Seminary in New York City. In 2000, while attending a course at the Seminary’s main campus in Louisville Kentucky, Paul met a fellow student and pastor who invited him to play and sing at his home church in Tennessee. In August of 2000 Paul was honored to play at three churches in Tennessee. The Lord used this trip to gradually spark his desire to minister in song once again.

Soon thereafter Paul served as an interim pastor at a church on Long Island. In 2001 he was invited to join a contemporary Christian group called JGnFriends. The group was comprised of friends he ministered with years back in a church worship group. This was a blessed time both musically and spiritually. Stirred by the Lord, in 2004-05 Paul began focusing his attention on writing songs that would bring glory and honor to the Lord Jesus Christ. In 2005 Paul assembled a group of gifted musicians and brothers in the Lord to play a one-night concert of all original Christian music. The band was so well received that they decided to continue ministering, as the Lord leads.

Paul continues to write songs that are grounded in Scripture. His music has been described as “a sermon in every song.” He seeks to address a variety of biblical topics, some that are rarely heard in modern pulpits, much less contemporary Christian music. Paul has described this season as “the most creative and musically fulfilling” time of his life. He has described the band as “the most creative and talented” group of musicians he has ever played with. It is with great joy and enthusiasm that the band continues to minister. Paul Paoli’s heart’s desire is to make the Lord Jesus Christ and the riches of His glory known to people everywhere.

BACKGROUND BIOGRAPHY

Faith, Family, Friends

Rob''s the people person of the band. He started playing guitar at 8 and played until his early teenage years, He picked up bass out of necessity. At that point an early rendition of a praise & worship team needed a bass player. Rob heard the calling and this has carried him to where he is today.

It was in a church next door to where he lived in Flushing, New York that he first played bass for a Christmas Cantata. It was amazing, people singing and praising about the birth of our Savior was too overwhelming for him to put aside. As his Christian teachings began to take deep roots, so did his faith in The Lord Jesus Christ.

With an uncle who was a recording engineer with RCA Victor Records, Rob, as a young man was blessed to record in the same studios as the Jefferson Airplane & the King of Rock ''n Roll himself; Elvis Presley.

Today, Rob loves being part of the music ministry in his church. Music is still his deepest focus in his service to God. Playing with several praise & worship teams, the orchestra and lending a helping hand in the A/V media area for concerts and services at the church. Rob strongly believes in getting the good message out too as many and in any way possible.

A big sports fan, Rob loves hockey, baseball and football; this was partly how he met his wife Marianne. Rob says, "To find a Christian woman who was in tune will all I loved was truly a blessing from God!" Together after all these years, Marianne has been the rock and solid voice of reason in his life. Blessed with two sons, their oldest son Jeffrey attends Farmingdale University and plays hockey for the school, hoping to make it into the NHL someday. His youngest son Joseph is still in high school and is very active in music, singing with a teenage youth group, he also plays several musical instruments. A talented graphic artist, Joseph hopes to someday establish a career in web design.

The man who loves toys, Rob is known as the "techie" of the group as he is always investigating new technologies and how to improve the sound and recordings of the band. It’s safe to say, this guy never sleep!

DAVE CUTRONE - Piano & Keyboard

Birthday: December 26th
Hometown: Copaigue, NY
Musical Influences: I thank God, first & foremost for the gift He has given me! Those who have influenced me are my brothers in the Lord, the greatest musicians in my life and fellow band members. But I think it''s mostly the people who just love music and the joy you can see it gives them. Those are the people who help shape who we become and that''s enough of an influence for me.
Favorite Scripture: 1 Peter 3:15, Isaiah 53, John 1:1

BACKGROUND BIOGRAPHY

I come from a family with a very "short line" of musicians. My Grandfather was the only musical person in my family on either side. I was told he liked to play the organ, but I never got to know him because he passed away before I was born. I don''t know why, but I seemed to gravitate towards the keyboard maybe he had something to do with it. I started playing piano when I was about 10 years old and by the time I turned 15 I was playing professionally in clubs with my best friend in his Dad''s band.

I accepted Christ at the ripe old age of 16. Even from my early days as a Christian I loved to challenge others'', and even my own ideas to make them stronger. I didn''t want to just believe what I was told. I wanted to know what I believed and why.

"It''s pretty interesting to see how God has orchestrated the members of this band into coming together because there is no other explanation for it". His hand is in every part of this and it''s confirmed every single day.

Having toured with a popular country-western band for nearly 6 years, Dave is fortunate to have met a lot of interesting people along the way and treasures the friendships he has gained.

When Dave is not playing in the Paul Paoli Band, he enjoys spending time at home with his wife & kids (two boy''s & a girl), time that includes fixin'' up the house, soccer & little league baseball games.

The Bible say''s "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord" and Dave does just that!

ROB GROSSO

Birthday: September 8th
Hometown: N. Massapequa, NY
Musical Influences: Eddie Van Halen, Alex Lifeson, Joe Perry

BACKGROUND BIOGRAPHY

Rob began playing guitar at age 12 with limited formal instruction and played in a few bands throughout high school. After graduating, Rob continued playing, but moved on to playing the local club circuit.

Meeting Paul Paoli in 1998, the two joined up for the first time in the summer of 2005 for a concert at the Jones Beach Boardwalk Bandshell for their Summer Concert Series.

Now, nearly one year later, Rob says that The Paul Paoli Band has had a profound impact on his musical, personal, and spiritual life. Rob explains; “I’ve been playing music for a long-time, and it has given me much enjoyment through the years, but not quite like this. Sure, my playing has been brought to a new level with the excellent musicians Paul has chosen, but also my relationship with God has been brought to a new level. I’ve come to realize that this talent that I’ve been blessed with, is truly a gift from God, and that I need to use that talent to glorify Him for ALL of my blessings. The neat thing is that I can help deliver Christ’s message, and strengthen my own relationship with Him in doing so."
