David began the study of trumpet in 1965 under the instruction of Les Beigle, noted Seattle trumpeter.
In 1969, he graduated from Snohomish (WA) High School, where he played solo trumpet in the high school band under the direction of Edward Peterson.
David received his Bachelor of Music degree with honors from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle in 1980. Instructors included Gary Peacock, Jim Knapp, Butch Nordal, Art Lande, and Julian Priester.
For the next three years, he performed as a trumpet soloist on the cruise ship S.S. Independence, Honolulu, Hawaii. He was also trumpeter and composer with Bob Braye‘s “Peace & Rhythm” concerts at Honolulu’s “Jazz Plus” featuring Dave Liebman.
From 1983 to 1986, David was trumpeter/arranger with the “Frank Grasso Big Band” and Charles Green’s “Trumpetissimo” while based in Amsterdam. He worked with Dee Daniels, Sal Nistico, Toots Thielemans, and Phil Wilson. David performed throughout Europe including: the Philip Morris, Heineken, and Camel Jazz Festivals, and also performed at The Concertgebouw and Odeon theaters in Amsterdam. He also performed at the Ritz Hotel in Madrid, Spain, and engaged in private study of trumpet at the Sweelinck Conservatory, Amsterdam with Charles Green.
For four years, starting in 1986, David performed in Holland, Belgium, Germany, Spain and Czechoslovakia. He was guest trumpet teacher at the Sweelinck Conservatory, Amsterdam. Also, during this time he served as Conductor of “Seabreeze”, a Dutch Big Band. He scored arrangements for “The Metropole Orchestra” and “The Amsterdam Little Big Band”, and recorded two albums “South African Force” and “East West Connection”.
David embarked on a Six month European tour in Stardust Production’s “The Cotton Club” in 1990. He also performed on television and radio broadcasts with the “Frank Grasso Big Band”, and produced and recorded the CD “Mangetsu” for “Vista Records”. For the next few years, David was a freelance performer & instructor and throughout the Netherlands.
In 1993, David became Musical Director for the “Ingram Washington Orchestra”, and composed arrangements for Mr. Washington’s show. During this time he recorded the CD “Unified Diversity” for “Vista Records”.
David relocated to Tokyo from 1996 to 2000, where he was trumpet instructor at the Iida Jazz School. He conducted monthly jazz workshops in the Tokyo area “How to Improvise”. The “David George Quartet” performed at the Tokyo American Club, Tokyo Capital Club, “What the Dickens”, the Imperial Hotel, and clubs: “Clifford” and Jazz spot “J”. He also performed at the ‘97 Seoul Motor Show, and recorded the CD “From the Heart” April ’98 with Jimmie Smith for Tokyo Sound City Planning. Also, in Japan, he served as musical arranger and trumpeter for the Jimmie Smith 5tet.
In 2000, David relocated to Seattle. He is currently on the teaching staff at Roberts Music Institute in Bellevue WA., and is an adjunct faculty member at North Seattle Community College.
