Details:
A multi-faceted performer, Randolph has woven a collection of compositions which incorporate a jazz/blues foundation with classical and world music flavors. Using a variety of non-traditional instrumentation, including, Russian balalaika, Indian Shenai,
mandolin, bassoon, viola, and a variety of ethnic percussion, Randolph creates pieces with numerous melodies and counter-melodies to bring a rich, full texture to his music.
All acoustic instruments, with vibes and marimbas replacing tradional piano parts, the core of the band includes classical/acoustic guitar, acoustic bass, trombone, violin, sax and flute. Mostly an instrumental CD, a 6 person chorus is utilized as another element to these songs. Each song has it’s own story. “Leaving Bagdad” is a symbolic anti-war statement in which the chorus sings in Farsi (Persian). “94” is primarily written in the time signature of 9/4 with changes to 3/4 and 4/4. “Old Guard” is a salute to the men and women of the Army’s 3rd infantry (who he had the pleasure of working with last year)
And “Mumbai Tears” a lament to the tragedy of 2008, which uses 5 different Indian flutes/horns and Indian Tablas, with North Indian vocal styles. Randolph’s style, which has been referred to as “Euphonic Jazz” delivers a global musical journey, that has been critically acclaimed as a “must have” CD.
