It began as a solo project. Sanjay Sharma, an engineer at Avast Studios, was recording a collection of songs he had composed. He recruited Jason McGerr to play drums, who introduced Chuck Keller to sit in on bass. As the sessions progressed, Chuck donated his talents as songwriter and engineer, and they began melting ideas into one cohesive collaboration.
The composition process within the music of NEO circulates around capturing the essence of mood and vibe. The dynamic chord structure, complimented by the emotional vocal harmonies, laced with lyrics amplified by strain, and peppered with percussive resonance, is a unique formation to standard rock.
The music pulls its influences from various places, including film and art. However, musical influences include: Can, Talk Talk, Low, PJ Harvey, SDRE, Jesus Lizard, Slint, Television, Heatmiser, The Beatles, early U2, Coltrane, and Zeppelin.
The history of NEO evolved from a prog punk rock band called Inertia, and a bent pop group called Eureka Farm. Both influences have collided into a cosmic soundscape stimulated by our technologically raging society.
Like its definition, NEO indicates something new. . . a new addition to alternative rock.
