Music fans seldom have the opportunity to witness the transformation and rebirth of a musical landmark, yet Trip Device, the San Francisco Bay area''s most explosive alternative rock band stands as proof that it is not an impossible undertaking.

Fueled at its core by aggressive melodic hooks and hard-hitting rhythm tracks, Trip Device combines spoken word samples, drum loops, sound effects and other surprises that bear out the band''s unique musical identity. Born out of lead singer/guitarist Bryan Wright''s previous brainchild Zero2, Trip Device marries a strong technological influence with subtle psychedelia, and counts Machines of Loving Grace, Stabbing Westward, Helmet and The Crystal Method among its many musical influences.

The band roared to life in 2003 with a powerful demo that ultimately brought Trip Device to Radiostar Studios to work with multi-platinum producer Sylvia Massy Shivy [Smashing Pumpkins, Tool, System of a Down, Love and Rockets]. With Sylvia at the creative controls, the band found itself in a richly creative nirvana, and the results of the session were nothing short of brilliant. The band quickly released a critically acclaimed three-song sneak preview of their debut album entitled Countdown: The Sylvia Massy Shivy Sessions with the full-length followup Inside I Feel planned for mid-2005.

Asked about the band''s satisfaction with the new tracks, Wright replied "The results are undeniable. I mean, we knew it was going to be great, but what came out of Radiostar completely blew our minds. We are fortunate to work with a producer of Sylvia''s caliber. She''s extremely good at what she does, and she does it with a lot of passion and energy and you can hear that energy in the tracks. She''s amazing."

To complement their artistic endeavors, Trip Device began working with Los Angeles-based Broken Ocean Entertainment, a high-impact artist management and marketing firm. Broken Ocean founder and music attorney Lee Rudnicki summed up his reaction to "Countdown" in 4 simple words that became the catalyst for the relationship: "Trip Device has arrived."

Although Trip Device is well-known for their groove-based hooks and the individual members'' technical prowess, they are equally renowned for an overwhelming live performance and eye-popping stage production. An intense computerized lighting system delivers a visceral and luminous punch to the audience''s sonic experience. "I live to create," says Trip Device founder and lead singer Bryan Wright. "Whether I''m making music, writing, cooking, exploring new technology or whatever, it''s all the same approach. We look at each Trip Device performance as a complete production that focuses on the total audio-visual experience."

That passion for doing what''s right for the music is at the core of the band''s philosophy. When asked which drummer most influences his playing, Trip Device drummer Stave Slater simply looked at the interviewer in stunned silence. After a long period of thoughtful reflection, he said, "I just play what I want to hear in any song we''re doing. I think I''m probably influenced by every drummer I''ve ever heard, but if I had to pick one, I don''t even think it would even be a drummer. It would probably be [hearing-impaired Scottish marimba player] Evelyn Glennie, who performs brilliantly with only the vibrations of her music through the floor to ''hear'' herself."

Now, after many months of hard work, a brilliant new sound created by a world-class producer has emerged, and the band aims its full force-and its now-famous stage production-at listeners in 2005.
