Details:
Forget the traditional recipe for the acoustic duo. Weed & Washburne bill themselves as an "acoustic duo with an electric twist." Playing and performing together off and on for the past ten years, Matt Hutchinson and Pete Laughlin have always looked for new and innovative ways to inject their recordings and live performances with a fuller sound and to make the listener forget that he or she is listening to a musical act sans bass and drums. In live performances, this policy is reflected in such things as the subtle use of guitar effects, the balancing of complementary six- and twelve-string guitar melodies, and a non-traditional choice of songs for an acoustic duo--songs by acts as diverse as the Beatles, Dada, Green Day, Men At Work and Jethro Tull. In the studio, this fuller sound is achieved in part with the layering of three- and four-part harmonies and multiple guitar tracks.

Having previously recorded two CDs heavily laden with cover tunes, "Everything We Are" is Weed & Washburne''s first all-original collection. Three of these songs (Tracks 2, 4 and 5) were purpose-written to sound and feel similar to the Beatles music that at the time of writing comprised the majority of the duo''s live set lists. Tracks 1, 3 and 6 were composed without the confining parameters of the Beatles template. Although still influenced by the Fab Four, these songs are more indicative of Matt''s and Pete''s personal experiences and creative styles; listen, for instance, to the Rush-inspired final guitar chord of "Everything You Are"; the lyrics of a frustrated job hunter in "What Does It Take"; and the electric guitar accents in "Destinations."

Included as bonus tracks are demo versions of two of the songs. Originally recorded to give prospective venues a taste of what Weed & Washburne sound like live, they feature two guitars and two vocals with no overdubs.

Weed & Washburne combine elements of several genres: pop/rock, ''60s rock, acoustic, vocal. But however one categorizes their music, one will agree that the term "acoustic duo” is only the beginning.
