TUNDRA MOON CREATION STORY
Drawn to the Latin phrase for World Tree, composer Dan Wengler launched Tundra Moon under its original moniker, Axis Mundi. Through the powers of simple networking, as well as tried and true advertising, Wengler intersected with other co-founders Wendy Warnimont and Stephanie Fletcher via bulletin boards and classified ads in Chicago.
As a trio (Dan Wengler - synth/percussion; Wendy Warnimont - lead vocal/guitar; Stephanie Fletcher - violin/vocal), the group set out in 1998 to produce an ethereal, oftentimes dark sound integrating genres such as new age, world, gothic, and folk with metaphysical and existential lyrics; a stark contrast to the rock-dominated music scene in Chicago at that time. Early writing efforts resulted in performances in a number of popular Chicago venues including Lounge Ax, Beat Kitchen and Phyllis'' Musical Inn.
In 1999, Fletcher parted ways to concentrate on solo material. Wengler and Warnimont continued as a songwriting duo and enlisted a variety of musicians for collaboration including flutists Chris Preissing and George Bell, guitarist Mitch Gregory, violinists Richard Fammaree and Chandra Watkins, to name a few.
With the inspiration of these musicians, the band began to turn their attention to self-produced performance events in places such as The Body/Mind Connection and Kafka Hotel in Chicago. In 2002, Axis Mundi became Tundra Moon while gathering steam to launch into the recording process.
"Electric Space Alive", Tundra Moon''s debut album, was independently released in the spring of 2003. An exotic sonic blend, the recording captures Warnimont''s haunting vocals and lyrics that dance and weave along with Wengler''s organic, synthesizer-based compositions. Guitar, violin, flute, mandolin and percussion add color and dimension to the mystical, dreamy soundscapes.

THE AGENTS OF EXPRESSION
Dan Wengler (composer, keyboardist and percussionist) has a rock/noise background, but began to develop a more ambient and melodic style shortly before forming the group. His compositions tend to invoke images of the natural world-a key inspiration. Unpredictable mood shifts and twist endings are a typical part of his composition style.
Wendy Warnimont (composer, vocalist, lyricist, guitarist and percussionist) brings a minor modal mood to her music based on her Serbian, Irish and Russian ancestry. With a passion for man''s search for meaning, Wendy''s lyrics reflect her lifelong study of yoga, Buddhism and shamanism. These foundations, combined with her work in theater, video production and the visual arts, suggest a cinematic tribal theater experience.
