the band vampire nation as best as anyone can tell started around 1994. Fredrik von Hamilton just ended his stint in a band called july and started experimenting with darker soundscapes and deep bass with a project known as nowhere girl. when nowhere girl didn''t pan out Fredrik decided to go forward with a historical project he had been planning for quit sometime. some of the experimentation was kept and would become the humble beginnings of vampire nation.
one year later vampire nation after touring with human drama and playing shows with bands such as lycia several labels took notice. saint thomas being the one to beat them all out. the fruits of vampire nations first known recording would be known as coph nia the hexagon chronicles which was released in 1996. a 25 date tour followed in 1997 and the break through hit egyptian sexmagik. esm appeared on so many compilations it boggles the mind. one count is 17 different compilations. even so the song to this day is still fresh.
1998-1999 saint thomas delayed the cd release of coph nia which paved the way for the band to form hexagon records and immediately release 1999''s bes-na-maut kiss the girls cassette which sold like lightning and further cemented their reputation. every single song on bes was a dancefloor hit and even had previous detractors hailing vampire nation as a pure triumph. this cassette is extremely rare as it was only released in a limited quantity.
Today Hexagon Records is home to a variety of artists including releases by Prince, Fela Kuti, Sun Ra, & Ancient Future. also in 99'' two promo singles were released. economic slavery & 777. two more smashes. these tracks are what sparked the fbi query into the band which came to a head when they confiscated the master tapes to the upcoming vn album that the tunes were scheduled to appear on.
2000 j-bird records signs vampire nation to a worldwide exclusive contract through special arrangement with hexagon and in july releases wise-ta-nech pre-european africa. this record (vn''s first on CD) finds the band in a more laid back yet very creative period. to date the record has moved off the shelves even faster than bes-na-maut and is being embraced at major radio stations across the world. almost unheard of for a band like this. the future looks very bright for vampire nation indeed...
2001 Hexagon releases VN''s most accessable album yet. "The Craft" the first single "Craft of the Union" debuts on the goth chart at #2 VN fever is at all time high as the band plays at Gothcon 2001, Bound in DC and several other high profile gigs around the USA. Also in 2001 due to high demand Hexagon puts together the best of VN entitled 123 Freeland Street and releases it . The CD includes Egyptian SexMagik, 777, Economic Slavery and Craft of the Union Futhermore it shows the diversity of this unpredictable band and amoung fans is hailed as a another triumph.
2001 VN records and releases Cosmos a fantastic diversion into the world of E Music. Somehow the band manages to do this and maintain the style and sound they are so loved for. The album receives raves from the people and press alike as is bumps hard on radio stations from Pittsburgh to Pakistan.
