Raised in North Carolina, singer-songwriter Sid Blake more commonly known as Saurabh Varma was trained in piano for a few years before being evicted due to his lack of desire to practice. His musical heart though could not prevent him from playing Led Zeppelin and the Beatles on the piano. Before long, through trial and error he figured out the blues scales and jazz chords that came to be a strong influence in Sid''s art.
Inevitably, the curiosity and desire to play guitar came along and Sid learned to both play and sing at the same time. He wrote his first song in 11th grade and hasn''t quit ever since. In college, he sang acapella all 4 years which enhanced his grasp of harmony and tone, he took veena lessons with David Reck who is a master of the ancient South Indian classical instrument, majored in philosophy which would prove to be a major influence in his songwriting, performed at numerous coffeehouses, and recorded this album.
In Sid''s songwriting, he explores themes of duty, friendship, rationalism, love, being and action, capitalism and innocence, yearning, resiliency, and mysticism.
As an artist, Sid seeks to write great songs and perform them regardless of the genre. Art is not restrictive in his eye. In that spirit, he finds deep emotion and inspiration in the soul singing of Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, and Marvin Gaye. He finds melodic genius in the pieces of A.R. Rahman and Ravi Shankar. And he finds poems and perfect songs in Bob Dylan and Neil Young.
