Early Years…
It''s the kind of story you love to hear. A couple of grammar-school friends decide to form a band, undeterred by the fact that none of them really know how to play their instruments. When they get together in the base¬ment of the drummer''s parent''s house they immediately began writing original songs... and learn as they go. They decide to call themselves
The Silence.
Establishing Themselves…
They enter High School and perform at house parties and a few “Battle of the Bands”. They record their first demo tape and begin to play in clubs throughout the Philadelphia area. After entering college they release their first CD titled “Ocean of Words” and shortly thereafter sign a production deal with Sonic Productions where they record three independently released CDs: “Nowhere; Now Here”, “Soulstice”, “The Silence EP”. They continually play clubs throughout the Northeastern US and earn airplay on college and regional radio. The exposure helps to promote the music to a widespread and devoted audience and earns them headlin¬ing spots at premier clubs from DC to New York. Their increased popularity elevates the caliber of their live shows and they soon find themselves opening for national acts such as Live, The Ocean Blue, The Sam¬ples, The Connells, Collective Soul, and Spacehog.
Present Day…
The groups strongly composed catchy songs showcase a band that has truly grown together. The McIntyre and Malcarney’s voices blend to create rich harmonies over a bed of melodic musical themes. The songs, recorded by The Silence and Mixed by Phil Nicolo at Studio 4, are inspiring at first listen but demand to be played again and again. Comparing The Silence to Dada, Big Head Todd, Toad the Wet Sprocket and U2 should be for categorical purposes only. The unique sound that enables them to be compatible with multiple forms of music simultaneously sets them apart. Their energetic live performances perfectly translate from album to stage and continue to make The Silence one of the best live acts around.
