Samba with Senorita Sarita...
New show and CD for kids

It''s a new sound for kids! It''s samba, rumba, cha cha and more, with an Afro-Cuban twist. It''s about being a kid and being young - about enjoying that time of life!
“It''s about being free of the adult pressures that kids are under,” says Senorita Sarita from her home in Vancouver. Senorita Sarita, composer, musician and mother adds, “I''ve taken a pop structure and added a Latin sound with percussion, saxophone, piano and instrumentation.”

The result is a happy sound, upbeat and lively, with catchy, lyrical melodies that make you want to get up and dance. Her songs tell off-the-wall, sing-along stories of kooky journeys and even kookier characters, from Dancing on the Beach through to her latest composition Tuktoyuktuk, a musical song-story and rhythmic journey that goes from one end of the planet to the another.

Sarita studied classical piano for about ten years as a youngster. “It was when I moved away from home that I discovered all this other music out there.” She played with punk and rock bands as a guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, then through a series of magical events was asked to write the theme song and background music for the award winning cartoon series “What About Mimi?” which is still aired on Teletoon.

“I found a home for my sound in that show,” explains Sarita. “I got a lot of feedback from kids. Simultaneously my daughter was in that age group, and I was looking for music for her, for the age six mark. She outgrew Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and was looking for something else to latch on to.”

What Sarita has now created is a series of songs for children that are age appropriate, rhythmical, and inspire movement, dance, involvement and creativity. “When you can inspire creativity in children it creates a platform for other things; a foundation for learning and accepting other knowledge.”

Senorita Sarita''s show, along with her newly released CD, is a sure hit with the younger set at schools and music festivals. And yes, her name really is Sarita!
