Details:
In these days of gimmicks and marketing strategies, comes an artist who believes reality is better served raw. That artists name is D.N.P (abbreviated for Dollas N Power). Born of Caribbean Heritage, his style consists of a mixture of Jamaican Dancehall (the way he rides the rhythms) and Rap (cleaver wordplay).

Raised by a family of hustlers, and being completely comfortable in any hood. D.N.P is the streets. On the contraire to most street rappers riding the sad story of coming from a broken home, his mother and father have always been there for D.N.P, just they chose not to hand feed him. His father always told him “ if you need something, do what you have to do to get it, cause bums and beggars can’t be choosey”. By the age of 10, D.N.P was already making runs for the older hustlers from the hood for small amounts of money. By 13, it was a wrap. D.N.P was running the streets at full speed, while most kids were attending the Boys & Girls Club.

At a young age, he received a jewel from his grandfather in the form of knowledge. His grandfather knew of him running the streets and told him “look Pook (his nickname), if you gone do it, do it right. Only chase dollars and power, for with dollars comes power, and everything else will fall into place”. From that jewel is how his name came to be.

Music was always in the picture for D.N.P, but if seemed to always fall second to money. After a couple of involuntary vacations, he decided to go hard at it. He started making songs strictly for his hoods, but many who rode with the older hustlers who had his music in their decks displayed a liking it. His first test was Hot 93.7’s Roc-Da-Mic contest during Roc-A-Fella’s Roc-Da-Mic Tour, in which only 10 of Connecticut’s best rappers would be entered. Rappers had to call in and spit their best in 30 seconds (12 bars). Out of thousands of rappers calling and spitting, D.N.P was chosen. Since then, he has put out a couple of mixed cd’s, and is receiving spins on numerous college radio stations in Connecticut as well a abroad. D.N.P is beast, and this industry is starting to look like curry goat w/ rice and peas.
